Huskies Take Over After Tight First Set

St. Cloud State 3 – Upper Iowa 0 (30-28/25-11/25-15)

The Peacocks win streak of three straight matches came to an end tonight at St. Cloud State University. The host Huskies won a close first set 30-28 and then quickly dominated the Peacocks in sets two and three, 25-11 and 25-15, to sweep the Northern Sun Conference match up. The loss drops UIU’s record to 5-11 overall and 3-5 in the NSIC, while St. Cloud improves to 10-5 overall and 5-2 in conference play.
 
The Peacocks had their chances in the first set with two set points, but SCSU was up to the challenge each time. UIU held off two set points by the Huskies, but couldn’t stop the third opportunity. Upper Iowa’s offense only managed a .037 hitting percentage with 25 kills, while St. Cloud State hit .281 with 50 kills.
 
Sara Vance hit a team-high 9 kills, while Danielle Gernes registered 9 digs for the Peacocks. Skylar Lesan tallied 20 assists on the night.
 
The Peacocks will have a chance to avenge this loss on Saturday afternoon when the Huskies visit Dorman Gym at 4 p.m. Prior to the rematch with St. Cloud State, Upper Iowa will have to line up with the #7 Golden Bears of Concordia University, St. Paul. The Golden Bears are the three-time defending National Champion at the Division II level. UIU and CU will begin their match Friday night at 7 p.m.
