The Peacock volleyball team opened their final home stand tonight in Dorman Gym with a Northern Sun match against the Golden Eagles of Minnesota, Crookston. After a tight first set, the Peacocks took command of the contest to win in straight sets. The 3-0 victory was only the second of its kind this season for Upper Iowa.
The two teams played a close first set as the Golden Eagles hit .257, while holding the Peacocks to a .186 percentage. Both teams racked up 14 kills, but UIU was able to edge their guests 25-21 in the opening set. Sara Vance and Nicky Brown led the offense in the first set with 5 and 4 kills, respectively.
Upper Iowa took control in the second set as they improved their hitting percentage to .259; the home team held UMC to a low .094 percentage in the second set. Five Peacocks notched at least one kill in the second set as Skylar Lesan was able to spread the ball around in the 25-17 victory.
The Peacocks continued to impress in set three posting another 25-17 win. UIU hit .258 with 12 more kills, while holding the Golden Eagle offense down to a .037 percentage.
For the match, Vance tallied a team-high 10 kills, while Brown finished with 9. Lesan handed out 23 assists, while Danielle Gernes had a team-high 10 digs. Lesan also added four blocks on the night.
UIU (7-17, 4-11 NSIC) will return to Prochaska Court tomorrow afternoon against the Dragons of MSU Moorhead. The match is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
