A night after visiting the #1-ranked Bulldogs of Minnesota Duluth, the Upper Iowa University Volleyball team was back in action Saturday afternoon by visiting Bemidji, Minn. to entertain the host Beavers of Bemidji State University. The Beavers won the first two sets and ended the match in the fourth set as they went on to a 3-1 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory.
The Peacocks started slow as they hit just .164 and .104 in the first two sets of action before turning it on in sets three and four and upping their hitting average to .181 for the match. UIU was led offensively with 18 kills from Sara Vance while Kayla Wagner tallied 11 kills and Nicky Brown chipped in 10. Sophomore Skylar Lesan dished out 41 assists while Danielle Gernes led UIU in digs with 22.
Bemidji State outkilled the Peacocks 55-51 and outdug UIU 91-74 as they snapped an eight match losing streak. With the loss, UIU's record falls to 5-15 overall and 3-9 in NSIC play while the Beavers improve to 9-11 and 3-9 in league play.
Upper Iowa returns home this Tuesday as they host their final non-conference match of the season when Ashford visits Dorman Gym in Fayette for a 7 p.m. showdown.
