Mitchell Kleinschrodt

Mitchell Kleinschrodt enters his first season in 2017-18 at Upper Iowa University on the football staff. Peacock Head Coach Tom Shea announced Kleinschrodt as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for UIU. Kleinschrodt comes to Upper Iowa after serving as an offensive graduate assistant for the University of New Mexico, an NCAA Division I program in the Mountain West Conference.?

UIU’s newest coach started with the Lobos football program as the Director of Player Personnel and then moved back onto the field as an offensive graduate assistant last season. Last season, he worked with UNM's offense in practice, particularly the skill positions and also handled video breakdown and advance scouting.

Kleinschrodt headed to New Mexico after spending the 2014 season at Highland Community College as the running backs coach.  He had previously served as a graduate assistant at St. Cloud State University in his home state of Minnesota.  In 2013, Mitchell assisted coaching the defensive backs for the Huskies after assisting in coaching the running backs.

During his time at St. Cloud State University, the Huskies finished 7-4 in 2012 and 12-2 in 2013.  That 2013 squad advanced to the NCAA II quarterfinals. At SCSU, he roomed with fellow graduate assistant and former Peacock quarterback and assistant coach, Ben Curran. Kleinschrodt’s new position with Upper Iowa was opened when Curran, who coached the UIU wideouts for a year (2014) and the quarterbacks for two (2015 & ’16), moved over to Wayne State College as the Wildcats new offensive coordinator.

Kleinschrodt, a native of Alden, Minn., graduated in 2008 from Alden-Conger High School.  He went on to Gustavus Adolphus College where he bounced around both sides of the ball playing quarterback, wide receiver, and later finished as a defensive back. Mitchell graduated from Gustavus Adolphus in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in communication studies. He also earned a master’s degree in educational administration and leadership from St. Cloud State.
