Miguel Silva enters his fourth season as the men’s soccer assistant coach in the fall of 2014. Prior to coming to Fayette, Silva spent four years as a member of the Clarke University Crusaders soccer team in Dubuque, Iowa.  The team was coached by current UIU head men's soccer coach Jason Carlson.

Silva played in 52 games for the Crusaders and recorded two goals – both game-winners – and one assist. In 2012, he led Clarke to a 10-7-1 record on the field, but earned just as much recognition off the pitch. Silva was a 2012 Dean’s List selection in the fall and earned Midwest Collegiate Conference All-Academic honors.

Paired again with Carlson, Silva helped push the Upper Iowa men’s soccer program to new heights last year. The team finished 8-7-2 and 3-3-2 in conference play – an Upper Iowa record for most wins in the MIAA. Furthermore, four players earned all-conference recognition and one earned all-region honors following the season.

When Silva wasn’t practicing or competing with the Crusaders, he spent his time coaching. Last season, he served as the assistant coach for the men’s soccer team at Hempstead High School in Dubuque, Iowa. During his time with the Tigers, Silva worked with both the junior varsity and varsity programs and focuses on conditioning, tactical formation and player development.

On top of his local coaching duties, Silva has spent the past four years as the co-Head Coach for the Academy of Soccer Excellence held in Richland, Washington. He conducted training sessions that addressed tactical, technical, and physical player development, while also evaluating players. Silva roster’s consisted of twenty under-16 boys who competed together.

Originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Silva earned his start in coaching as an intern assistant coach for the Bangu Atletico Clube during the summer of 2012. He assisted the professional coaching staff; set up training materials for the professional players, filmed training sessions and participated in staff meetings.

Silva graduated from Clarke in 2013 with a degree bachelor's degree in biology and bio-chemistry.
