Upper Iowa University Athletics

Matt Lesan averaged 19.5 per game including 27 in the Peacocks’ loss at Augustana and 12 in UIU’s win at Wayne State.  The senior guard was 10 of 20 from the field including 4 of 9 from deep.  Lesan made his living at the free throw line hitting 15 of his 17 attempts on the weekend.

Upper Iowa split their two conference games this weekend.  After Augustana dominated the matchup with the Peacocks on Friday, UIU’s defense prevailed and Tucker Wentzien led the offense with 18 points to defeat Wayne State 60-57.  The split moves Upper Iowa into a four-way tie for 8^th place in the conference standings.

The Peacocks will be on the road again this coming Friday and Saturday against the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State and the Mavericks of Minnesota State.  Upper Iowa lost to Minnesota State due to a late run, but Dan Bestul hit a game-winning three-pointer for the Peacocks as they rallied to defeat the SMSU in the first match up.
