Nate Oakland returned for his third season as the head women's basketball coach at Upper Iowa in 2021-22. Oakland is the 14th head coach in the 46-year history of the Peacock women's basketball.

The Cedar Falls native came to Upper Iowa from Fargo, N.D., where he served as an assistant coach with the women's basketball program at North Dakota State University, a NCAA Division I member of the Summit League, from 2017-19.

Oakland joined the Bison staff in 2017 after serving as the head women's basketball coach at Coe College in Cedar Rapids for the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons. Prior to his time at Coe, Oakland was an assistant coach at Wartburg College (2011-15), Coe (2009-11), the University of Northern Iowa (2006-09) and the University of Minnesota-Morris (2005-06).

Throughout his 15 years of coaching, Oakland logged thousands of hours in recruiting the Midwest concentrating his efforts in Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois and Missouri.

In addition to coaching basketball, he also led the men's golf team at Wartburg for three years and the men's and women's tennis teams during his time at Minnesota-Morris.

Oakland graduated from Northern Iowa in 2004 with a bachelor's degree in sports psychology and earned a master's degree in sports psychology from UNI in 2011.

He and his wife, Alex, are the parents of five children including daughters Jordann and Quinncy and sons Eli, Kaiden and Maddox.
