After Session Two: Brackets || Team Scores

The Peacock wrestling team added to their program’s total of All-Americans reaching 78 in their storied history after four young men earned the honor today during Session 2 at the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships in Birmingham, Ala.

Bryce Lumzy (157), Blake Sorensen (174) and Mitchell Schultz (184) will all compete in the Championship Semifinals on Saturday morning at the CrossPlex Complex, while Carl Broghammer (197) bounced back from a first round loss with two wins by fall to stay alive in the consolation brackets and keep his hope for a third place finish alive.

For Schultz, the All-American honor is his third straight. The Postville, Iowa product placed sixth in 2011 and fifth last season.

For Broghammer, the All-American honor is his second. The Manchester, Iowa native claimed third place as a redshirt freshman in 2011.

Trevor Franklin (133) and Wade Gobin (165) both suffered losses by decision in their opening match of Session 2 which not only ended their run at the championships, but their collegiate career as well. Both seniors have much to be proud of not only this year, but in their four-year careers.

As a team, Upper Iowa climbed up three spots in the team standings during the second session. The Peacocks are tied with Newberry College in fifth place with 33 points.
