Privet catches fire and Foster delivers double-double to top Blue Tigers

Junior guard scores 24 points while shooting 75% from the field

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Ava Privet scored 24 points, and Ellie Foster recorded her first career double-double in Upper Iowa's (13-10, 9-6 GLVC) 79-59 win over Lincoln (Mo.) (4-18, 2-13 GLVC) on Saturday.

Privet's 24 points came on an 8-of-12 (75%) shooting day from the field with a 3-of-4 (75%) mark from behind the arc. She was also 5-of-5 from the charity stripe. The Calendonia, Minnesota native was one point short of her career-high 25-point performance against Truman State on Jan. 17. This is the fourth time this season she has scored 20 or more points.

Foster's double-double featured 15 points and 14 rebounds with two assists and a block. That marked a career-high in rebounds for the graduate. She shot 6-of-13 (46.2%) from the field and played a team-high 34:03 in the game. Foster has now scored in double digits in 17 of UIU's last 18 games.

After nine lead changes in the first 12 minutes, the Peacocks finally gained control with an 8-0 spurt in the second quarter capped off by a Privet and-one to lead, 24-17. UIU then extended that run to 17-3 for a 33-20 advantage. The Peacocks shot 6-of-7 from the field during the run, highlighted by Sydnee Nelson knocking down a pair of 3-pointers.

Bryar Duwe hit a 3-pointer with 34 seconds left in the half to give the Peacocks a 37-24 advantage at the break. Duwe had previously knocked down a 3-pointer in the closing seconds of the first quarter as well.

Privet started the second half with a 7-0 run all on her own to take a 20-point lead, 44-24. Lincoln didn't go away, responding with back-to-back 3-pointers. With the lead down to 12 points later in the quarter, Foster hit a 3-pointer to extend the lead back to 15 points at the media timeout. UIU led by 12 entering the final quarter, with Privet and Foster both scoring seven points each in the third.

Nelson started the fourth quarter with her third 3-pointer of the game, marking a season-high for the junior. That helped the Peacocks start the quarter on a 10-3 run for a 19-point lead. After a Kendyl Lodermeier and-one, she followed it up on the next possession with an offensive rebound and a kickout 3-pointer to Amelia Valentino, extending the lead to the largest of the game at 79-53.

UIU shot 8-of-14 (57.1%) from the field in the fourth quarter while adding a 4-of-5 (80%) mark on 3-pointers. The Peacocks made their first four 3-pointers of the final period.

Lodermeier finished the game with 13 points, four rebounds and two assists. She was 5-of-9 (54.5%) from the field and 3-of-3 from the charity stripe. Nelson totaled 11 points, four rebounds, an assist and a steal. This marked her sixth double-digit scoring game of the season and her first since Jan. 4 against Missouri-St. Louis.

Duwe added nine points with three rebounds, an assist and a steal. She was a team-best +26 on the court. Josie Foster scored four points with four rebounds. Valentino had three points, three rebounds and an assist. Freshman Magi Bjornson totaled a team-high and a season-high three blocks.

Hallie Williamson had 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Blue Tigers. Isis Sanders added 16 points. Williamson, Sanders and Bella Borgos combined for 43 of the team's 71 shots. Borgos was held to four points on 1-of-10 shooting from the field.

The Peacocks finished 28-of-58 (48.3%) from the field with a 12-of-25 (48%) spot from behind the arc. That's UIU's third-highest 3-point percentage in a game this season. Upper Iowa is 26-of-49 (53.1%) combined on 3-pointers in the two matchups against Lincoln this season.

UIU shot 11-of-14 (78.6%) from the free-throw line compared to Lincoln's 8-of-19 (42.1%). The Peacocks have shot 75% or better from the charity stripe in each of the past five games. The Blue Tigers were held to 22-of-71 (31%) from the field and 7-of-26 (26.9%) from behind the arc. Those are the lowest field goal and free throw percentages by an opponent against the Peacocks this season.

Upper Iowa outrebounded Lincoln 44-40, but the Blue Tigers had a 17-8 advantage on the offensive glass. The game only featured the nine lead changes in the first 12 minutes, as the Peacocks led for the rest of the game to aid their 30:24 time in the lead.

The team will aim to stay hot with rematches against top-tier GLVC competition this upcoming weekend in Dorman Gymnasium. UIU hosts first-place UMSL (18-3, 14-1 GLVC) on Thursday, Feb. 12, at 5 p.m. and then hosts Maryville (Mo.) (18-5, 12-3 GLVC) for Senior Day on Saturday, Feb. 14, at 1 p.m.
