Upper Iowa's 3-point shooting downs UIndy on Thursday night

Peacocks make 11 3-pointers and Duwe scores 17 in five-point win

FAYETTE, Iowa - Upper Iowa women's basketball (8-6, 4-2 GLVC) picked up a 67-62 win on Thursday night over Indianapolis (1-13, 0-6 GLVC). Junior Bryar Duwe scored a team-high 17 points in the victory that snapped a three-game losing streak. 

After Upper Iowa led 34-26 at halftime, Duwe got hot to start the third quarter. A layup by Sydnee Nelson started the half, then Duwe made three 3-pointers in five possessions to help the Peacocks take a 47-31 lead. Later in the quarter, she hit her fourth trey of the game, extending the lead to 56-37 for UIU's largest of the game. 

UIndy fought back, ending the quarter on a 9-2 run to trail by 12 heading into the fourth. The Greyhounds kept that momentum rolling, outscoring the Peacocks 14-3 to trail 63-60 with 39 seconds left. 

Graduate Ellie Foster came up big on the next possession. After a screen from Ava Privet, she drove the ball to the hoop on the left side and knocked down a layup through contact for the and-one. She knocked down the free throw to seal the win.

Upper Iowa started the game strong with an early 15-3 lead, which featured a 3-pointer from Foster, Privet, and Lindsey Davis. Kendyl Lodermeier also knocked down two early field goals in the paint. The Greyhounds held UIU scoreless for the final 4:46 of the quarter to come back and trail 15-12 at the end of it.

Leading 23-21 with three minutes to go, Privet drove to the bucket and beat the charge for an and-one layup. Later in the quarter, she knocked down a pair of 3-pointers to help extend the lead to 34-24. Privet went 4-for-4 from the field in the first half. 

Duwe added five rebounds, two assists and a steal in her 17-point night. She went 5-for-5 from the field in the third quarter. 17 points is her third-highest total this season. 

Foster finished with 15 points, marking her ninth-straight game in double digits. She grabbed five rebounds and a team-high three steals while shooting 50% from the field. The graduate also drew a team-high six fouls.

Privet and Lodermeier each totaled 12 points. Lodermeier grabbed a team-high six rebounds with two steals, an assist and a block. Privet was 4-of-5 from the field, with her only miss on the night being blocked. She also had two assists, two rebounds and two blocks. 

Davis scored seven points with two assists. Nelson and Kenzie Deaton each had two points. Nelson totaled a team-high seven assists, her second-highest total in a game this season. 

Patricia Chikamba led UIndy with 18 points and seven rebounds. Graycie Poe finished with 14 points and four rebounds. Autumn Rucker had a double-digit game with 11 points and five boards.

The Peacocks shot 24-of-51 (47.1%) from the field while UIndy shot 25-of-61 (41%). UIU doubled UIndy's 3-pointers with an 11-of-23 (47.8%) mark to a 5-of-18 (27.8%) mark. The Peacocks shot 8-of-11 (72.7%) from the line while the Greyhounds were 7-of-11 (63.6%).

Upper Iowa outscored UIndy 19-11 off turnovers, while UIndy had a 38-20 advantage in the paint and a 16-5 advantage on second-chance points. Indianapolis outrebounded Upper Iowa 40-26. 

UIU is back in Dorman Memorial Gymnasium on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Lewis (Ill.) (7-6, 3-2 GLVC). The Flyers did not play on Thursday night and are entering the contest on a five-game winning streak.
