Lodermeier’s career-best double-double propels Peacocks past Hawks

Freshman scores 25 points with 11 rebounds; Ellie Foster adds 20 points

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Freshman Kendyl Lodermeier recorded her first career double-double with a career-high 25 points and 11 rebounds in UIU's (10-9, 6-5 GLVC) 73-60 win over Rockhurst (Mo.) (6-11, 2-9 GLVC) on Saturday afternoon. Ellie Foster added 20 points, marking her second 20-point game of the weekend.

This was Lodermeier's first career game with 20 or more points. Her previous career-high was 18 points against Missouri S&T on Dec. 6. She added a career-high five assists with a steal and a block. The freshman also shot 8-of-11 (72.7%) from the field and 9-of-11 (81.8%) from the charity stripe.

Ellie Foster recorded her fourth 20-point game of the season, and her second-straight, as she also scored 20 points against William Jewell (Mo.) on Thursday night. She added five assists, four rebounds, two steals and a block while making a team-high four 3-pointers on nine attempts (44.4%).

Trailing 12-9 in the opening quarter, Lodermeier and Ellie Foster sparked a run. Lodermeier made a jumper while Ellie Foster and Bryar Duwe knocked down 3-pointers for an 8-0 spurt. After a pair of Hawk free throws, Ellie Foster drove in for a layup to lead 19-14 after the opening 10 minutes.

Leading 26-20 in the second period, Amelia Valentino knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers, extending the Peacock lead to 12 and forcing a Hawk timeout. The Peacocks maintained that advantage for a 40-32 lead at halftime.

At the break, the Peacocks were 11-of-22 (50%) from the field, 6-of-12 (50%) from beyond the arc and 12-of-15 (80%) from the free-throw line. The Hawks were 12-of-31 (32.7%) from the field, 1-of-7 (14.3%) on 3-pointers and 7-of-10 (70%) from the charity stripe.

Lodermeier came on in the third quarter, scoring nine points with seven coming off of second chances. She fought through contact with 1:24 remaining for the old-fashioned 3-point play to put UIU up 11. The Peacocks were up 10 points entering the final quarter.

Up 63-53 after the final media timeout, the Peacocks went on a 10-0 run with two Ellie Foster 3-pointers, icing the game. The Hawks scored the final seven points, but UIU held on for the 13-point victory.

Duwe finished with 11 points, seven rebounds, two assists and a block. This marked the junior's eighth double-digit game of the season. She last scored double digits against UIndy on Jan. 8.

Valentino and Josie Foster each added six points. Josie Foster added five rebounds and an assist, going a team-best +16 on the court. Valentino grabbed three rebounds. Kenzie Deaton scored three points with five boards. Sydnee Nelson tallied two points, five rebounds and an assist.

Tori Miller led Rockhurst with 19 points and six rebounds. Keeley Steele scored 14 points and Macie Conway had 12 points. Conway was the team's leader in assists with four.

The Peacocks overcame a 10-turnover deficit, totaling 20 for their second-highest mark of the season. This helped the Hawks have a 19-7 scoring advantage off turnovers. UIU rebounded well with a 43-31 advantage, aiding the second-chance point advantage, 11-5.

Upper Iowa finished the game shooting 24-of-54 (44.4%) from the field, 9-of-22 (40.9%) from three and 16-of-20 (80%) on free throws. That tied for the most free throws made for the team as they drew 20 fouls. Rockhurst shot 21-of-61 (34.4%) from the field, 3-of-15 (20%) behind the arc and 15-of-24 (62.5%) from the charity stripe. The Peacocks led for 34:28 while Rockhurst led for 1:54.
