The Peacocks concluded their season at the GLVC Championship Tournament as the Drury Panthers got the best of Upper Iowa, by a score of 95-61.
Helen Staley quickly got on the board, as she fought through a foul and converted a layup. She added a jump shot two minutes later, with
Sydnee Nelson dishing out the assist on the fast break. The Panthers would take the lead on a pair of turnaround jumpers, and they were able to extend their lead to eight at the free throw line. Soler would then score off a layup on a backdoor cut, before driving past her defender for a second consecutive layup on the following possession. Drury was able to close out the quarter with three baskets in a row, where they would take a 28-16 lead.
With Drury extending their lead,
Mia Huberty scored on a layup and
Ava Privet would add a layup on the following possession. Huberty then received a pass on the block, and she hit a post fadeaway to make it a 36-23 game. She scored her tenth point on a midrange pull-up and the Panthers would respond with a bucket in the paint and a corner three-pointer. Huberty continued to thrive in the quarter as she matched Drury's scoring by swishing a shot from beyond the arc. This would be the first of three consecutive three-pointers by the Peacocks as Nelson and Privet each knocked down threes of their own to cut the lead to 45-34 at the half.
Soler continued to get to the basket as she opened UIU's second half scoring with a euro step layup. The Panthers would get off to a hot start in the period as they went on an 11-2 run, where an and one layup would help extend their lead to 20. Huberty was fouled on a midrange jumper where she would convert both her free throws and Privet followed that up by scoring on a step-through two-pointer. Drury's defensive presence forced multiple turnovers throughout the third and they were able to take advantage of their fast-break opportunities. Staley scored on a contested shot in the paint while
Amelia Valentino added a pair of free throws, but a Drury layup would give them a 75-48 lead at the end of the quarter.
Staley reached double figures in the fourth by scoring on a layup with
Lindsey Davis picking up the assist. Privet scored on a pull up jumper on the following possession and Nelson would score on a pair of layups, with her second coming off a steal on the fastbreak.
Abbie Riederer knocked down both of her free throws in the final minute, and the game ended with a score of 95-61.
Mia Huberty scored a team-high 19 points while shooting a perfect 8-8 at the charity stripe. She grabbed four rebounds and added one steal. Huberty closes out her sensational career with 1,298 career points which ranks second all-time in Upper Iowa history at the Division 2 level.
