The Peacocks were unable to sweep the season series over Missouri-St. Louis as the Tritons defended their home court in a 76-49 win.
The Peacocks scored on three consecutive possessions in a row early in the game as
Helen Staley and
Anna Soler each recorded layups while Syndee Nelson added a basket from beyond the arc. The Tritons were able to find their rhythm halfway through the quarter, as they closed out the period on a 10-2 run to take a six-point lead. They continued to thrive in the second as they shot 50% from the floor, while their defensive presence held the Peacocks to 16.7% shooting in the quarter.
UMSL entered the half with a 38-17 lead and while the second half was very evenly matched, Upper Iowa was unable to reduce the deficit. The Peacocks improved their shooting splits in the half, while converting all eight of their free throw attempts. They forced nine turnovers as a team, which led to four points, while the Tritons accumulated 17 points off turnovers. Missouri-St. Louis also saw a lot of success while attacking the basket as they recorded 14 points off offensive rebounds while outscoring UIU 44-20 on points in the paint.
Abbie Riederer and
Lindsey Davis each recorded back-to-back three pointers in the fourth, followed by Nelson scoring on a layup on the following possession. Davis followed that up with a pair of layups, including an and one layup for the Peacocks final bucket on the day.
Lindsey Davis finished with 12 points on 5-13 shooting. She hauled in three rebounds and recorded one steal.
Mia Huberty scored 12 points while shooting 3-9 from the floor and a perfect 6-6 at the free throw line.
Sydnee Nelson scored seven points on 3-8 shooting while knocking down her lone three pointer. She added four rebounds and dished out two assists.
Anna Soler scored four points with a team-high seven rebounds and blocked one shot.
The Peacocks return to Fayette as their final three games of the regular season will be held in Dorman Memorial Gymnasium. In their first weekend back, Upper Iowa will face Illinois Springfield, Thursday, Feb. 20 at 5 p.m. and McKendree on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 1 p.m.
