Peacocks Prepare for Battle with the Bulldogs and Hawks

THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK WOMEN'S BASKETBALL… Upper Iowa will look to close out their road trip on a high note as they face Truman State on Thursday, Jan. 16 at 5:15 p.m. and Quincy on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 1 p.m.

PEACOCK SEASON RECAP… The Peacocks currently sit as the #8-seed in the conference as they have posted a 6-7 record while going 3-4 in the GLVC. Despite their record, UIU has remained competitive as they came up two points shy of sending undefeated Lewis to overtime, and three of their four losses in the conference have been by two points or less. The Peacocks opened conference play with a double overtime victory over Quincy, where they were led by Mia Huberty scoring a career-high 38 points. The Peacocks have also achieved double digit victories over Lincoln and Missouri-St. Louis, where they held the 11-3 Tritons to a season-low 44-points.
 
THREE-POINT SNIPERS… The Peacocks have been the best three-point shooting team in the GLVC as they lead the conference with both an average 8.8 three-pointers made per game as well as a sensational 40.2% shooting from three. Four Peacocks have shot over 40% from three with a minimum of ten shots, highlighted by Abbie Riederer going 8-14 (57.1%) from range. Sydnee Nelson has shot 11-20 (52.0%) from beyond the arc, and she converted 4-5 of her attempts earlier this month against Maryville. Huberty has shot 22-47 (46.8%) and Kayla Bohr is currently shooting 15-35 (42.9%) from beyond the line. Ava Privet has recorded a team-high 27 three-point baskets on 70 shots, posting a percentage of 38.6% on the season.

TAKING ON TRUMAN STATE… The Bulldogs have posted a 5-11 record on the year, while going 2-4 in the conference. Fifth year Jordan Cunningham ranks third in the GLVC with an average of 17.0 points per game and she has shot 47.2% from the floor. Cunningham has scored 20+ points in five of her last eight games, including a season-high 27 points on 8-13 shooting against Southwest Baptist. She has added 4.4 rebounds per game while also leading the team with averages of 3.3 assists, 1.5 steals and 0.9 blocks per game. Sophomore Molly Joyce is scoring 14.3 points per game on 37.4% shooting. She has dropped 30 or more points twice on the year, as her best game of the season came against Ursuline, scoring 34 points (10-16 FG, 6-10 3PT, 8-8 FT) while adding four rebounds and four steals.

REMATCH WITH QUINCY… The Hawks have gone 10-5 this season, while recording a 4-2 mark in the GLVC with one of those losses being against Upper Iowa. Fifth year Nicole McDermott has is scoring 14.7 points per game while shooting 44.4% from the field. She has hauled in an average of 6.9 rebounds and she leads the team with 3.3 assists and 1.4 steals per game. McDermott is coming off her third double-double this past weekend, and she previously recorded a 28-point game where she grabbed 13 rebounds against Drury. Sophomore Mariann Blass has added 12.8 points per game on 43.8% shooting. She tipped off the month with a season-high 23 points against Lincoln where she shot 10-15 from the floor and 3-5 from three. Senior Cymirah Williams has scored 9.9 points per game while ranking second in the GLVC with an average of 9.5 rebounds per game. She has recorded four double-doubles and hauled in a season-high 16 rebounds against Grand Valley State.
 
MARK YOUR CALENDARS… Upper Iowa will return to Dorman Memorial Gymnasium as they host Rockhurst on Thursday, Jan. 23 at 5 p.m. and William Jewell on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 1 p.m.
