Peacocks Voyage to Missouri for Regular Season Finale

THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK WOMEN'S BASKETBALL… Upper Iowa will be playing their final two games of the regular season as they take on Drury on Thursday, Feb. 29 at 5 p.m. and Southwest Baptist on Saturday, Mar. 1 at 1 p.m.

GLVC STANDINGS… The Peacocks have accumulated a 13-11 record while going 10-10 in GLVC play. Following a dominant weekend, the Peacocks are currently ranked seventh in the GLVC Point Rating System which determines the top eight teams that will be competing in the conference tournament.
 
SENSATIONAL SENIORS… Brooke Evenson and Katie Tornstrom have been incredible throughout their careers, as both players have joined the 1,000-point club in the month of February. Evenson is coming off a career-high 28-point performance on her Senior Day where she shot 11-17 from the field and 5-9 from three. She added a blocked shot for the eighth game in a row and is averaging a team-high 7.6 rebounds per game. Tornstrom put together back-to-back 22- and 23-point games against Maryville and Quincy, surpassing the 20-point mark for the eleventh time this season. Tornstrom leads all scorers with 16.6 points per game and she ranks second with an average of 6.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists. She has shot 38% from three on the season and her 2.3 steals per game ranks second in the GLVC.
 
HEROIC HUBERTY… Mia Huberty also recorded consecutive 20+ points performances against Maryville and Quincy where she made 19 shots at the free throw line between the two games. She is averaging 15.3 points per game on 44.6% shooting and leads the Peacocks with 3.5 assists per game. Huberty scored a game winning mid-range jumper against UIndy near the start of the month, which has been a huge factor in propelling the Peacocks to seventh place in the standings.
 
LIGHTS OUT SHOOTER… Amelia Valentino is coming off a career-high 18-point performance against UIS where she scored 15-points in the fourth quarter. She shot 6-9 from the field and 3-6 from beyond the arc, making 3+ three pointers for the fifth time this year. Valentino has been terrific from beyond the arc all season, shooting 43.2%.

DYNAMIC DRURY… 
The Panthers rank second in the conference at 16-4, but they have recorded the highest overall mark at 21-5. Drury had previously been on a 13-game win streak, which just came to an end in a two-point loss to Maryville. Sophomore Reese Schaaf leads the team with 17.2 points on 59.9% shooting, while adding 9.2 rebounds per game. She has recorded 15 double doubles, which included a season-high 29-point performance against Missouri S&T. Graduate Beth Matas Martin is averaging 15.5 points per game on 43.6% three-point shooting. She has made 72 three pointers on the season and is averaging 3.7 rebounds per game. Junior Caitlynn Daniels rounds out Drury's double-digit scorers with 14.0 points per game on 45.6% three-point shooting. She ranks second on the team with 6.7 rebounds and has averaged a team-high 5.7 assists per game.

SCOUTING SOUTHWEST BAPTIST… Southwest Baptist has gone 10-16 overall, with a 6-14 GLVC record. They are currently the 12-seed in the GLVC point rating system and are coming off a five-point victory over Missouri S&T. Junior Tori Hamilton is averaging team-highs with 9.5 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game. She is shooting 55.6% on the year and has scored 20+ points three times. Senior Kallyn Stumbo has put up 9.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game and she leads the team with a 5.7 assists per game average. Stumbo is averaging 2.0 steals per game, highlighted by a six-steal performance against Hannibal-La Grange.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS… The GLVC Championships are set to begin on Thursday, Mar. 7 and will proceed through Sunday, Mar. 10.
