CHEERS TO THE SWEEPIN' WEEKEND… For the second time this season, the Peacocks swept a weekend of play with two victories against MSU Moorhead and Northern State. The last time the Peacocks gathered two wins in one weekend was back in November against non-conference opponents Rockhurst University and William Jewell College.

UIU kicked off the weekend against MSU Moorhead, where they battled to a 74-59 triumph. In the history between these two programs, dating all the way back to 2011, this is the first time the Peacocks came away with a victory versus the Dragons. Haack led all scorers with 24 points, including going 4-8 from long distance. She also handed out seven assists. Tornstrom tallied 15 points and Rochon-Baker and Mia Huberty each contributed ten. Upper Iowa shot 44% (28-63) from the floor in tonight's matchup. They performed nearly as well from the three-point line, netting 40.7% (11-27) from long range.

The Peacocks battled Northern State the following day. The Wolves jumped out to an early start and finished the first quarter ahead 17-9. The second session was a quick turnaround for UIU as they outscored NSU 25-9 and put themselves ahead. The second half was a game of runs, as both teams fought for the upper hand. The Peacocks were down three with 30 seconds left and managed to take advantage of each possession and the opponents' missed free throws to pull ahead and seal the 63-60 effort.

DYNAMIC DUO… Lydia Haack and Katie Tornstrom have been a vital part of Peacock women's basketball all season. Over the last two games, these two have put up monumental numbers in contribution to their team's success. Over the course of last weekend, Haack shot 45% from the field and 40% from three-point land. She averaged 23.5 points, 5.5 assists and 5 rebounds. Tornstrom tallied an average of 19.5 points from the weekend while shooting 52% from the field and hauling in 8.5 boards.

Each of them are in the running to etch themselves into the record books after this season. Tornstrom is nearing the leaderboard for made three- pointers in the season, as she has netted 41 and the bottom player on the list has recorded 49. She would join her teammate, Brooke Evenson, who notched her way on the list in the 2021-22 season with 52 made three's. Haack is nearing the season assists record, as she has dished out 92 this season and the bottom player on the list recorded 110. Her current average of assists per game (4.4) would get her there by the end of the 2022-23 season.

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS…  Wayne State is currently 5th in the NSIC South and they come into this weekend 6-10 in conference and 10-10 overall. Right now they are on a three game losing streak, most recently suffering losses to Minnesota Duluth (74-54) and St. Cloud State (65-61). An NSIC notable includes them being fourth in scoring as a team with 69.6 ppg. The Wolves are led in scoring by Lauren Zacharias with 15.9 points per game (7th in NSIC). She also leads the team in rebounding with 4.7 per game.

SCOUTING THE VIKINGS… Augustana is notched first in the NSIC South and second in the overall conference race. They come into this weekend 19-3 overall and 13-3 in conference. The Vikings are currently on a seven game winning streak as their last loss was to Northern State on Jan. 6. Their most recent matches consisted of them defeating St. Cloud State 66-48 and No. 10 Minnesota Duluth 53-51. Some NSIC notables include them being third in scoring with 74.7 points per game and second in field goal percentages, free throw percentages and three-point field goal percentages.

DOWN THE SNOWY STRETCH... Coming up, the Peacocks travel to Minnesota and South Dakota for their last full weekend of road games. Upper Iowa faces Southwest Minnesota State University and Sioux Falls on Feb. 10-11. Tip off on Friday in Marshall, Minn. is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Game time on Saturday in Sioux Falls, S.D is set for 5:30 p.m.
