Peacocks Set to Test Bulldogs on the Road

THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK WOMEN'S BASKETBALL… Upper Iowa will continue their road trip as they travel to Missouri to take on Truman State. The Bulldogs will host the Peacocks on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 1 p.m.

EARLY-SEASON STANDOUTS… Upper Iowa has started the season 2-3 and are coming off a 60-74 loss on the road to Missouri-St. Louis. Last week was highlight by junior Mia Huberty scoring a season-high 29 points for the Peacocks on 10-22 shooting against Indianapolis. Huberty is averaging 16.0 points on 39.7% shooting and has recorded 2.2 rebounds per game. Fifth-year Katie Tornstrom has scored at least 16 points in four of UIU's five games to start the year and she is averaging 16.4 points per game while shooting 38.9% from three. Tornstrom recorded her season-high 24 points against Oklahoma Christian and recorded a 16-point, 12-rebound double-double against Indianapolis. Fifth-year Brooke Evenson has recently surpassed 100-career games with the Peacocks and has averaged 11.0 points per game on 46.5% shooting from the floor and 35.0% from three-point range. Evenson is averaging 7.0 rebounds per game and leads all Peacocks with four blocked shots. Her best performance of the season came against Newman University, when she recorded a 12-point, 11-rebound double-double. Junior Helen Staley has averaged 6.4 points per game and has shot a team-high 48.3% from the field (minimum of ten shots). She has led the way on the rebounding and playmaking end, averaging team-highs in rebounds with 7.2 per game and assists with 4.4 per game. Staley put-together an eight-point, 12-rebound performance in the season opener against Graceland and has recorded four or more assists in Upper Iowa's last four games. BOUT WITH THE BULLDOGS… Truman State has started the season 3-5 and are coming off a 68-72 loss to Lewis University. The Bulldogs have gone with the same starting five of upper classmen in all but one game and they are led by fifth-year Ellie Weltha. Weltha has scored at least 14 points every game this season and she is averaging 19.3 points per game on the season while shooting 60.9% from the field. She has also led the way on the rebounding efforts, averaging 9.8 rebounds per game and has five steals and six blocks to start the year. Fifth-year Bailey Kliewer is averaging 9.5 points per game and has shot a sensational 50.0% from the three-point line on 24 shots, and has the second most rebounds on the team, averaging 4.8. Fifth-year Ainsley Tolson has averaged 9.3 points per game and has made 58.8% of her field goal attempts. She has also been the team's go-to playmaker, averaging 4.0 assists per game while making 31 out of her 37 free throw attempts. Rounding out Truman State's starters are senior Claire Rake and junior Emma Bulman. Rake is averaging 9.1 points per game and 3.0 rebounds per game, while Bulman is averaging 7.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS… Upper Iowa will return home to play Truman State once again, this time at Dorman Memorial Gymnasium. The match will be held Saturday, Dec. 9 at 1 p.m.
