Box Score Upper Iowa women's basketball traveled north for their first matchup of the weekend and fell to Minnesota Duluth 76-48 . The Peacocks kept it competitive throughout the first half, but were unable to stay in pace with the Bulldogs for the remainder of the game. UMD improved to 11-0 in conference and 14-2 overall. The loss dropped the Peacocks to 6-10 (2-9 NSIC).
The first quarter consisted of large runs from each squad. Minnesota Duluth kicked things off with an 11-2 run to open the game. In return, the Peacocks fired back with a 12-2 run of their own. The Bulldogs concluded the first period with an 18-14 advantage.
The Bulldogs led by 10 after the first half as they shot 45% from the field (24-31) in comparison to the Peacocks who netted 32% on 10-31 shooting. The final two quarters consisted of Minnesota Duluth taking advantage of offensive opportunities as they pulled ahead and out of reach from the Peacocks.
Minnesota Duluth continued to take pride on the defensive end in this contest as they forced the Peacocks to take contested shots and held them to just seven three-pointers the entire game. Individually, they honed in on
Lydia Haack, limiting her to just eight points, just half of what she normally averages.Â
Upper Iowa shot 18-56 (32.1%) from the field and 2-7 beyond the arc. Minnesota Duluth netted 30-57 (52.6) from the floor and 6-14 (42.9%) from downtown.
Mia Huberty led the Peacocks in scoring with 10 points. Haack and
Lexie Lodermeier each contributed eight.Â
UMD's Brooke Olson eclipsed the 2,000 point mark after her 30-point performance in this evening's contest.Â
The Peacocks are back in action again tomorrow as they travel to St. Cloud State to wrap up the weekend. Their battle with the Huskies is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.Â
