The Upper Iowa University women's basketball fell 73-52 against Augustana University (SD) in their penultimate home game of 2021. UIU responded to a 10-0 deficit to take a 27-20 lead in the second quarter, but AUGIE scorched UIU from behind the arc and swung the game back in their favor for good. The Peacocks fall to a 2-9 (0-6 NSIC) record on the year while the Vikings improve to 4-5 (1-5 NSIC).
The Vikings knocked down three-pointers on each of their first two possessions and jumped out to an early 10-0 lead thanks to baskets on four of their first five possessions.
Jessica Musgrave scored the first UIU basket after three minutes of action, but Augustana pushed their advantage to 11 with another shot from deep, 13-2. The Peacocks responded in a big way with a 12-0 run, and five points from
Katie Tornstrom over the four minutes helped UIU take a 14-13 lead.
Brooke Evenson knocked down a three-pointer on the first possession of the second quarter to put the Peacocks up 19-16. Musgrave and
Lydia Haack kept the UIU momentum going with four points apiece in the first 3:18 of the period, while Upper Iowa held Augustana to just four points over the stretch. Upper Iowa looked to have thoroughly flipped the script by outscoring AUGIE 25-7 after going down by 11 early as UIU held a 27-20 lead with just under seven minutes to play in the second quarter. However, another first-half twist was in store as Augustana closed the half on an 18-1 run, powered by a 4-4 clip from distance, to bring a 38-28 lead into the locker room.
AUGIE's momentum carried into the second half as their lead swelled to 17 thanks to a 7-0 stretch in the third period. Tornstrom scored four more points to help the Peacocks shave one point off their deficit before the fourth quarter, 58-42. A Musgrave layup marked the first points of the final frame, but the Vikings hit five of their next six shots, including 3-4 from three, while holding UIU to 0-6. The 13-0 run gave Augustana a commanding 71-44 lead with 5:55 to play. The game had one last run in store as UIU went on an 8-0 spurt, but the Vikings hit the final shot to close out the Peacocks, 73-52.

The teams matched each other with 16 points and five baskets in the first quarter, but the Peacocks shot 5-13 (38.5%) from the floor and 1-2 (50%) from three while the Vikings shot 5-20 (25%) from the field and 3-11 (27.3%) from deep. Augustana out-shot UIU in each of the next three quarters, finishing with a 27-68 (39.7%) mark from the floor while holding UIU to 19-69 (27.5%).
- Three proved to be worth more than two in a big way tonight, and the scalding 13-26 (50%) clip from behind the arc for the Vikings provided a 39-point advantage from deep. The Peacocks made their fewest three-pointers of the season, shooting just 4-16 (25%) from distance.

The Vikings finished with a 49-37 rebounding advantage as they were +12 on the defensive glass. Despite each grabbing seven offensive rebounds, the Peacocks turned their second chances into 14 points while the Vikings scored just two second-chance points.

UIU set a season-high in steals for the second game in a row with 12 to double up on AUGIE (6), finishing with 11 turnovers compared to 17 for the visitors. The margin gave UIU a 13-6 advantage in points off turnovers, but the Vikings finished with the lead in fast break points, 20-12.
