RECAP... Upper Iowa was unable to secure the momentum early as the Peacocks were held without a win in any of the three doubles matches, falling by a score of 6-2 in each contest. The sweep of the doubles matches earned Purdue-Northwest an early 1-0 lead in the dual as they claimed the doubles point.

In singles competition, the Peacocks played close, competitive matches at No. 1, 2, and 3 singles but were unable to clinch a win in any of their singles matches. Playing in the No. 1 singles match, Charalampia Grammatikaki won the first set by a score of 6-4 before falling 6-0 in set two and dropping a tight tiebreak set by a score of 10-7. In No. 2 singles, Varvara Ogorodnikova fell by a score of 6-1 in set one and narrowly missed a chance to force a tiebreak as she fell 7-5 in set two. Jessa Michieli opened her No. 3 singles match with a 7-6 win in the first set to take an early lead, but she was unable to hold on as PNW won sets two and three by scores of 6-3, 10-5, respectively. The Peacocks fell in straight sets in their No. 4, 5, and 6 singles matches as Purdue-Northwest clinched the 7-0 win in the dual.

COACH'S QUOTE... "It was a tough day for us today as we did not pick up any wins. We did not start well in doubles as we lacked energy and made too many unforced and tactical errors in those matches. In singles, we brought the energy way up but were unable to secure any wins. We had some closely contested matches but made too many unforced errors, lost too many games at deuce, and did not control our matches well enough. Purdue-Northwest played really well, and we just have to play better and keep improving. It is a good learning experience early in the season, and we will improve moving forward. Go Peacocks!" - Head Coach, Léo Millet

UP NEXT... The Peacocks will wrap up their fall competition schedule with a pair of duals in Decorah, Iowa, on Saturday, Oct. 9. Upper Iowa will face Luther College at 9 a.m. before matching up against Saint Ambrose University (Iowa) at 12:30 p.m.
