The Upper Iowa University women's basketball team came out strong in their second consecutive game against Southwest Minnesota State University, but ultimately dropped the second game of their double-header versus the Mustangs. The Peacocks were leading or tied for the majority of the first quarter and were only down 17-14 after the first period, but a cold-shooting second quarter allowed SMSU to take a 35-23 lead into the half. UIU would not recover in the second half and the Mustangs would go on to win 68-37. SMSU improves to 4-0 (2-0 NSIC) while Upper Iowa drops to 1-5 (0-4 NSIC).

Turning Point…
The Peacocks grabbed an early 5-0 lead after guard Lydia Haack opened the game with makes from both outside and inside the arc. After scoring 11 in the first 6 minutes of play, the Peacocks could only muster up 12 in the final 14 minutes of the first half. After a Katie Tornstrom layup gave UIU the first points of the third, the Mustangs went on a 10-0 run over the next 7:29 to take a 45-25 lead. SMSU's advantage would swell to 36 late in the fourth before the Peacocks scored the final five to close out the game.
