The University of Mary Marauders used a dominating second quarter to roll past the Upper Iowa University women’s basketball team on Friday evening in Bismarck, N.D. The Peacocks outscored the home team 55-47 between the first, third and fourth quarters, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the cushion UMary built behind a 30-6 second quarter. The University of Mary Marauders used a dominating second quarter to roll past the Upper Iowa University women's basketball team on Friday evening in Bismarck, N.D. Upper Iowa now sits at 3-20 (2-15 NSIC) on the season, while UMary moved to 16-10 (10-7 NSIC).

The Marauders took control from the get-go, winning the opening tip and using that momentum to jump out to a quick 9-0 lead on their home court. After a Peacock timeout, Bekka Pierson hit a three to get Upper Iowa on the board and ignite a 12-0 run that gave the visitors a 3-point lead. The two teams then battled back and forth with UMary claiming an 8-4 advantage to close out the quarter ahead by just one, 17-16.

The second frame was all UMary as the Marauders knocked down 64.7 percent of their shots from the floor including 42.9 from behind the arc en route to a 30-point quarter. Along with efficient offense, UMary also showed tough defense and was able to hold the Peacocks to just two buckets in 14 attempts. By the end of the frame, the Marauders held a comfortable 47-22 lead.

UMary extended its advantage to 30 with a 5-0 run to start the third quarter but the Peacocks never gave up and managed to outscore their hosts 39-25 the rest of the way including a 22-9 fourth quarter. Upper Iowa cut the deficit to 14 on two occasions in the final leg but there wasn't enough time left on the clock to close the gap completely as the Peacocks fell 77-61.
