Minnesota Crookston knocked down the first two baskets of the night before Upper Iowa generated an 11-0 run over the course of 3:40 to capture a lead it would not surrender. The Golden Eagles managed to pull back within one, 13-12, with a 3-pointer on their first possession of the second quarter but Upper Iowa held UMC to just two free throws in the next 5:30 while putting 12 points on the board to push the lead back out to double-digits. The Peacocks shot 45.5 percent from the floor during the stretch while the visitors went 0-for-8 including six unsuccessful tries behind the arc. Upper Iowa continued the pressure on both sides for the remainder of the frame and went into the locker room with a 32-19 lead after Bekka Pierson drained a three as time was running out.

After shooting just 21.2 percent in the first half, the Golden Eagles turned their offense around in the second half to knock down 18 baskets in 36 attempts including 11 from long range. However, UMC's hot shooting was matched by Upper Iowa who went 19-for-36 from the field and added eight free throws to tally 50 second half points. The Peacocks led by as many as 22 towards the end of the third quarter and were able to cruise to the victory from there as both squads turned to their bench in the final minutes.
