The Peacock tennis team dropped to 2-7 on the year and 1-7 in the Northern Sun Conference after a pair of losses in Moorhead, Minn. Upper Iowa lost a 7-0 match to the Marauders of the University of Mary and a 6-1 decision to the Dragons of Minnesota State University Moorhead.

The Marauders won the doubles point, but UIU's No. 1 doubles team of
Shakhnaza Zhanatova and
Maryke Badenhorst continued to shine with a 7-5 win over Tasha Dembo and Yursa Hegy. Upper Iowa lost the No. 2 doubles match 6-0 and had to forfeit at No. 3 due to injury. In singles action, the Marauders scored wins from No. 1-5 and added a win by forfeit at No. 6 due to injury. Badenhorst won her first set, 6-4, at No. 2 over Hegy, but dropped sets two and three, 4-6, 2-6.
Lara Peco also forced a third set at No. 3 thanks to a 7-5 win in set two, but dropped the first and third frames, 4-6, 1-6.

The Dragons won all three doubles matches including a 6-2 defeat at No. 1 as Julia Geske and Olivia Keelin topped Zhanatova and Badenhorst. MSU Moorhead won No. 2 by a 6-2 count and scored the win by forfeit at No. 3. Zhanatova scored UIU's only point of the weekend at No. 1 singles when she outlasted Geske in a hard-fought match 7-5, 7-5.

Upper Iowa will have a couple weeks off as they prepare for their final four matches of the regular season. UIU will face Winona State University on Mar. 23, the University of Minnesota Crookston on Mar. 30 and Bemidji State University on Mar. 31. All three duals will be in Winona, Minn. The team will close out the regular season with a non-conference dual against Northwest Missouri State University on Apr. 7.
