UIU's women's basketball team got right back onto the court at the University of Arkansas-Monticello on Saturday against the Muleriders of Southern Arkansas University. The Peacocks struggled in the first quarter, but looked like they had righted the ship taking a slight advantage at halftime. The Muleriders controlled the action in the second half and ran away with a 73-47 victory to improve to 2-0 on the year. Upper Iowa fell to 0-2 for the season.

After falling behind 22-8, the Peacocks turned the tables on their opponents in the second quarter outscoring SAU 20-4 to take a two-point lead at the break, 28-26. During the quarter, UIU knocked down four three-pointers including a pair from
Megan Peterson.
Caralina Apostolou also knocked down a long-range jumper, added two free throws and a jumper to lead the team with 7 points in the quarter.

In the opening minutes of the third quarter, the Peacocks were still leading by two, 30-28, after a jumper by
Jessica Musgrave. Unfortunately, the Muleriders took control of the game outscoring the Peacocks 17-5 over the final seven minutes of the frame to build a ten-point lead, 45-35, as the game moved toward the final quarter.

SAU held UIU scoreless for the first four minutes of the quarter to push their lead from 10 to 24 points thanks to a 14-0 run. The teams played out the final minutes as Southern Arkansas posted a 73-47 win.

Southern Arkansas also held the UIU shooters to 33.3% from the field and 21.4% from three and won the battle on the boards by a 50-36 count.

- The Muleriders forced the Peacocks into 34 turnovers in the game and converted the UIU miscues into 38 points, which accounted for more than half of their total points.
Up Next… The Peacocks will host the Bearcats of McKendree University on Wednesday night, Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. in the team's home opener.
