Upper Iowa Set for Road Tilts with Bemidji State, Minnesota Crookston

Upper Iowa finishes the back half of its four-game road trip this weekend against Bemidji State University and University of Minnesota Crookston. The Peacocks will face the Beavers on Jan. 18 at 5:30 p.m. in Bemidji, Minn. before battling the Golden Eagles on Jan. 19 at 3:30 p.m. in Crookston, Minn. Both Upper Iowa and Bemidji State are looking for its first Northern Sun victory of the season while Minnesota Crookston is aiming to get back to .500 after a pair of losses in last weekend’s competition.

THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK WOMEN'S HOOPS… Upper Iowa finishes the back half of its four-game road trip this weekend against Bemidji State University and University of Minnesota Crookston. The Peacocks will face the Beavers on Jan. 18 at 5:30 p.m. in Bemidji, Minn. before battling the Golden Eagles on Jan. 19 at 3:30 p.m. in Crookston, Minn. Both Upper Iowa and Bemidji State are looking for its first Northern Sun victory of the season while Minnesota Crookston is aiming to get back to .500 after a pair of losses in last weekend's competition.

LAST TIME OUT… Upper Iowa dropped a pair of road games last weekend against Augustana University, 79-45, and Wayne State College, 99-74. The Peacocks were led by Savannah Domeyer over the weekend with an 11.0 point average thanks to 20 points against WSC. Overall, Domeyer went 10-for-15 (66.7%) and chipped in seven rebounds, one assist, and two blocks. Haley Martin averaged 5.5 points and 6.5 boards between the games, and handed out a career-high five assists against WSC. Casey Miles also set her career-high with four assists against the Wildcats. Natalie Dinius and Emma Gaber combined for nine of UIU's 14 scores from deep. Upper Iowa averaged 59.5 points after a 74-point production against WSC, the highest mark put up against a Northern Sun opponent in over 80 games. On Saturday, the Peacocks outrebounded an opponent for the 5th time this season and tied their season-high assist mark with 22.
 
IN THE STANDINGS… Savannah Domeyer and Natalie Dinius represent Upper Iowa in five individual NSIC rankings. Domeyer sits in the top-15 for field goal percentage (10th, 48.7%), free throw percentage (11th, 76.6%), and blocked shots (2nd, 1.9 bpg) while her rebounding efforts sit in the top-25 with a 5.4 average. Dinius has converted an NSIC-high 37 triples this season and sits in 3rd place with 2.3 makes per game. She needs 14 more 3-pointers to match her 2017-18 total which finished 6th in the NSIC. As a team, Upper Iowa ranks 6th in the Northern Sun for blocked shots per game (3.6) and 8th for 3-point FG percent defense (29.8%).

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS… Bemidji State (2-12, 0-10 NSIC) was swept on the road by Minnesota State University Moorhead (62-54) and Northern State University (56-47) last weekend, and is looking for its first win in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. BSU's last NSIC win came against Upper Iowa last season when Bemidji State came back from behind in the 4th quarter to steal a 60-52 victory. Upper Iowa held a five-point advantage, 47-42, with 9:17 left in the game before Bemidji State used a 14-0 run to outscore the Peacocks 18-5 the rest of the way for the win. In 2018-19, the Beavers are averaging 58.3 points per game on 37.0 percent shooting from the field. BSU is led by Brooklyn Backmann (9.6 ppg, 3.8 rpg), Maria Appicelli (9.5 ppg, 1.9 apg), and Taylor Bray (8.8 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 58.8% FG). Gabby Dubois hauls in a team-high 6.0 boards per game and makes 45.8 percent of her shots to average 7.9 points. 
 
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES… Minnesota Crookston (9-7, 4-6 NSIC) dropped two NSIC-affairs last weekend when the Golden Eagles fell to Northern State University (60-59) on Friday and Minnesota State University Moorhead (78-65) on Saturday. UMC was led by Isieoma Odor who averaged a double-double of 13.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game on the weekend. Odor, the NSIC's 2nd-highest scorer, leads the Golden Eagles this season with 17.9 points per game. Odor is shooting just better than 50 percent and also brings down 9.4 boards per contest. Caitlin Michaelis also averages double-digits with 13.1 points per game. Kylie Post averages 9.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.6 steals. The Golden Eagles average 68.0 points (7th in NSIC) on 41.0 percent shooting (7th in NSIC) and 36.1 rebounds. UMC is first in the NSIC in free throw percentage with a 76.9 clip.
