Upper Iowa hit the road on Friday night for the first of four straight Northern Sun Conference games away from Fayette. The Peacocks lined up with the Augustana University Vikings, who dropped out of the D2SIDA Top 25 this week, but were still receiving votes as one of the best teams in the nation. The Vikings stifled the Peacock offense early and secured a big advantage heading into halftime. Upper Iowa was able to find their stride in the second half, but Augie posted the 79-45 victory to improve to 15-3 overall and 7-2 in the NSIC. The loss pushed UIU's record to 3-14 overall and 0-9 in the conference.
Augustana's hit on all cylinders during the first quarter converting eight field goals including three from beyond the arc, while holding the Peacocks to just one point without a field goal in the opening frame. UIU's first points of the game came with 11 seconds to play in the quarter on a
Haley Martin free throw.
The Vikings kept their defensive pressure up in the second quarter pushing their lead to 27 as they grabbed a 41-14 lead at the break.
Upper Iowa began to find some success on offense in the second half scoring 31 points, but the hole was too great to climb out of as the Vikings posted the 79-45 victory at home.
The Peacocks, who turned the ball over 16 times in the first half, took much better care of the ball in the second half recording only 5 giveaways in the third and fourth quarters combined.
Vishe Rabb led the Vikings with 19 points, 4 steals and 3 rebounds, while Abby Hora and McKenzie Zilverberg both scored 11 points.
Natalie Dinius scored a team-high 11 points fueled by three triples, while Martin added 8 points and
Ally Fink came off the bench to chip in 6 points.
Bekka Pierson pulled down 7 rebounds and Marina Peinado handed out 3 assists.
Upper Iowa will get right back onto the court tomorrow in Wayne, Neb. The Peacocks will take on the Wildcats of Wayne State College at 3:30 p.m.
