Upper Iowa lost a 64-35 decision in Dorman Gymnasium to No. 22 Minnesota State University Moorhead on Saturday. The Dragons kept a hold of the top spot in the Northern Sun's North Division with the dominant and defensive performance improving to 19-3 overall and 16-2 in the NSIC. The Peacocks dropped to 2-22 overall and 0-18 in the conference.
The Peacock offense struggled throughout the game knocking down only 11 field goals in the 40 minutes. The bright spots for UIU's offense came off the bench as
Haley Martin went 3-3 for a team-high 10 points and
Savannah Domeyer hit 2-5 with a pair of free throws for 6 points.
MSU Moorhead controlled the first three quarters taking a 53-23 lead into the final frame after holding UIU to six, nine and eight points in each of the first three periods. The home team outscored their guests 12-11 in the fourth to pull the final margin back to 29, 64-35.
The Dragons were led by Megan Hintz, who scored 18 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. Three more MSUM players scored 9 points apiece including Cassidy Thorson, Kiley Borowicz and Madi Green.
The Peacocks will take one of their shortest road trips of the Northern Sun season next weekend, Feb. 9-10. Upper Iowa will line up against Minnesota State University, Mankato on Friday and then head over to Concordia University, St. Paul on Saturday.
