Peacocks Head to Minnesota for NSIC Games Against Golden Bears, Mavericks

Upper Iowa will make the trip to Minnesota for a pair of NSIC matchups on December 14-15th. The Peacocks will face Concordia University, St. Paul on Friday evening at 5:30 p.m. before taking on the Minnesota State University Mavericks at 6 p.m. on Saturday evening.

THIS WEEKEND IN PEACOCK WOMEN'S HOOPS… Upper Iowa will make the trip to Minnesota for a pair of NSIC matchups on December 14-15th. The Peacocks will face Concordia University, St. Paul on Friday evening at 5:30 p.m. before taking on the Minnesota State University Mavericks at 6 p.m. on Saturday evening.

GIVE ME FIVE… Natalie Dinius continues to lead the Peacocks beyond the arc. Dinius converted four triples against Wayne State College and a season-high five against Augustana University to extend her streak of hitting three or more 3-pointers to seven contests. The Canby, Minn. product shot a season-high 55.6 percent in the game against the Vikings. Dinius leads the Northern Sun Conference in total 3-pointers made with 26 (t-23rd NCAA Division II) and sits 2nd with a 2.6 average. Through a third of the season, the sophomore is over halfway to matching her 2017-18 season total, which finished 6th in the NSIC.

BLOCK PARTY… Savannah Domeyer's six blocks against Wayne State were good enough to push her season total to 21, which sits atop the NSIC leaderboard and ties for 16th in NCAA Division II rankings. Domeyer's per game average (2.1) is the highest in the conference. As a team, Upper Iowa averages 3.9 blocks (4th NSIC).

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN BEARS…  Concordia-St. Paul (5-3, 1-2 NSIC) will look to even its conference record this weekend when Upper Iowa makes the trip to the Gangelhoff Center. The Golden Bears split their conference matchups last weekend by falling to University of Sioux Falls (83-74) and edging Southwest Minnesota State University (66-63). Concordia-St. Paul is led by two seniors, Lindsay Dorr (19.8 ppg, 10.5 rpg, 54% FG) and Anna Schmitt (15.9 ppg, 2.6 apg, 43.3% FG), who have combined for over 50 percent of the Golden Bear's scoring this season. Dorr's scoring average is 2nd in the conference while her rebounding average is the 3rd most and field goal percentage ranks 4th. Schmitt led CSP in scoring in both games last weekend with 17 points against USF and 26 against SMSU. Sidney Wentland ranks in the top three on the team in FG% (44.2 percent), 3FG% (50 percent), scoring (7.5 ppg), blocks (.4 bpg), steals (.75 spg), and assists (1.9 apg). Concordia-St. Paul's best play comes in the middle frames as the Golden Bears are outscoring opponents by an average 2.4 points in the 2nd quarter and 5.0 points in the 3rd.

SCOUTING THE MAVERICKS…  Minnesota State (5-3, 1-2 NSIC) enters the weekend looking to bounce back from two NSIC losses last weekend to SMSU (74-73) and USF (80-68). Junior Taylor Drost is MSU's leading scorer averaging 9.7 points per game on 41.3 percent shooting from the field. Rachel Shumski averages 9.4 points and is the Maverick's lead rebounder (6.4 rpg). Brooke Tonsfledt has stolen away 19 possessions from opponents to average 2.7 takeaways a game. Kristi Fett (6.6 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 1.0 bpg, 50.0% FG) and Rylee Menster (6.6 ppg, 53.8% FG, 55.6% 3FG) have also made early impacts for the Mavericks in their first years. As a unit, Minnesota State is averaging 76.9 points per game compared to its opponents' 66.4 points. The Mavericks are also outrebounding opponents by an average 5.9 boards and dish out 15.7 assists per game.

LOOKING AHEAD… The Peacocks will welcome Lincoln University of Missouri to Dorman Gym on Tues. Dec. 18 before hosting Winona State University on Dec. 30 for the final game of 2018.
