Upper Iowa hosted the Mavericks of Minnesota State University, Mankato on Friday night in Fayette. The Mavericks jumped out to an early lead and never let go on the way to a 65-48 win over the Peacocks. MSU posted a 52-36 advantage in rebounds to improve to 14-9 overall and 10-9 in the Northern Sun, while UIU falls to 3-20 overall and 3-16 in the conference.

Minnesota State went on a 14-0 to start the game and held Upper Iowa scoreless until
Blair Klostermann knocked down a jumper in the paint at the 6:31 mark. After the early setback, the Peacock defense turned up and shutout the Mavericks for the remainder of the quarter while cutting the gap to six, 14-8.

Minnesota State used the quarter break to reset their offense and used an 18-4 run over the first five and a half minutes to take control of the game. The Mavericks pushed their advantage to 32-12 fueled by 10 points from Taylor Klug. Five straight points from
Haley Martin pulled UIU within 14 points, 34-20, but MSU made it 36-20 with a shot in the final seconds of the half.

In the third quarter, the Mavericks pushed the lead to 25 points, but the Peacocks made another run at their guests to close the margin back to 14 with under a minute to play in the third. UIU's 13-2 run was highlighted by seven points from Klostermann and an
Ashley Ray three-pointer. Minnesota State outscored Upper Iowa by one, 13-12, in the fourth quarter on the way to their 17-point win.

Klostermann scored a team-high 11 points, but stuggled from the floor shooting 3-16, while
Haley Martin scored 9 points and pulled down 7 rebounds.

Upper Iowa will get back onto Prochaska Court on Saturday evening when they take on the Golden Bears of Concordia University, St. Paul. The Peacocks will honor their four seniors after the game on Saturday.
