Peacocks Bound for NSIC Road Weekend in Minnesota and South Dakota

Upper Iowa will be on the road this weekend as they restart their Northern Sun Conference slate. The Peacocks will be in Marshall, Minn. on Friday at Southwest Minnesota State University and in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Saturday at the University of Sioux Falls.

THIS WEEKEND IN PEACOCK WOMEN'S HOOPS... Upper Iowa will be on the road this weekend as they restart their Northern Sun Conference slate. The Peacocks will be in Marshall, Minn. on Friday at Southwest Minnesota State University and in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Saturday at the University of Sioux Falls. Both games are set to tip at 4 p.m. Friday's double header with the men will be webcast as usual, but will also be broadcast live on the Midco Sports Network. 

LAST YEAR AGAINST THE MUSTANGS AND COUGARS... The Peacocks split a pair of games against SMSU winning in Marshall (66-59), but losing in Fayette (79-70). UIU lost both games to the Cougars including a loss in Sioux Falls (74-41) and in Fayette (67-58).

STAT FILLER… Senior Ashley Rosenstiel is averaging 7.7 points, 5 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.6 steals per game for the Peacocks this season. The Oelwein native is shooting 44% from the floor and 43% from behind the three-point line. Rosenstiel has scored in double figures four times in the last five games including a season-high 15 at Quincy.

SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS… Senior forward, Lauren Hedlund, enters the week just six points shy of becoming the 19th member of the SMSU women's basketball 1,000 career points club. SMSU is 315-238 all-time in home games after its win over Waldorf on Nov. 18. SMSU currently ranks first in the NSIC in blocked shots (all games). True freshman, Abuk Akoi, ranks first in the NSIC (all games) in blocked shots. Taylor Holicky's six blocked shots at USF made her the first SMSU player since 2007 to have at least five blocked shots in a single game. 

SCOUTING THE COUGARS... Kaely Hummel leads the Cougars with a 14.8 point per game average. The USF guard is shooting 37% from the floor and from three, while more than half of her makes are from behind the arc. Lauren Sanders is shooting very well from three (11-26) and is averaging 11.3 points per game. Jasmine Harris is the final Cougar in double figures for scoring; she is averaging 10.5 per game while grabbing 4 rebounds per contest as well. As a team, Sioux Falls is shooting 35% from the field and 31% from three in their four games. The Cougars have posted wins over Presentation College, the Colorado School of Mines and Southwest Minnesota State, while their one loss came to Metropolitan State University of Denver.
