This Week in Peacock Basketball… Upper Iowa will close out the home portion of their schedule with a pair of games against Northern Sun South Division foes.  The Concordia University, St. Paul Golden Bears and the Minnesota State University, Mankato Mavericks will come to Fayette for the conference contests. The Peacocks lost to the Mavericks (75-54), but bounced back with a win over the Golden Bears (71-68) when the teams met in early December.  Upper Iowa will Play 4Kay on Friday night as part of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association initiative; fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of Play 4Kay Night.  UIU will then honor their three seniors (Whitney Kieffer, Aleesha Cleaver, Tatiana Grayer (Mgr.)) following the game on Saturday.

Play 4Kay… The Peacocks will once again Play 4Kay on Friday night.  Each member of the women's basketball program will be playing for someone they know that has been affected by breast cancer.  The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation, is committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research and related projects, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause.

Checking the Rearview Mirror… Last weekend Upper Iowa was swept by the University of Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State University. In an 84-60 loss to UMD on Friday, senior guard Aleesha Cleaver and junior guard Sam Ofstad each reached double digits for UIU scoring a combined 32 points with 20 and 12 points, respectively. On Saturday against the Huskies, the Peacocks only trailed by two points midway through the third quarter, but couldn't stay with SCSU down the stretch suffering a 72-60 loss.  UIU was led by senior guard Whitney Kieffer, who scored 13 points, and Ofstad, who chipped in 9. Both the Bulldogs and Huskies shot well from the floor converting 55.8% and 46.6% of their shots, respectively. Cleaver leads the team on offense scoring 13.3 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game, while Kieffer is averaging 12.0 points and 5.5 rebounds and Carly Pagel is adding 9.5 points and 5.0 boards.

Scouting the Golden Bears… Concordia split their weekend series on the road falling to Minot State University (71-66) before beating the University of Mary (96-75). CSP led by as many as 12 in the second half against the Beavers before a late rally gave MiSU the win in Minot. The following night, Concordia secured a victory by outscoring U-Mary, 60-31, in the second half thanks to 15 makes behind the three-point line in Bismarck.  Four Golden Bears are averaging more than 11 points per game including Anna Schmidt (15.3), Lauren Shifflett (14.8), Mishayla Jones (12.5) and Caitlyn Russell (11.4).  On the glass, Kyrah Fredenburg is pulling down 10.5 boards, while Kionda Nicks is grabbing 4.5 a game.
