Peacocks to Face Golden Bears and Mavericks in Minnesota Run

Upper Iowa will travel north to face Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota State this Friday and Saturday. Both games will start at 6 p.m.

THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK WOMEN'S HOOPS… Upper Iowa will travel north to St. Paul, Minn. on Friday to take on the Concordia University, St. Paul Golden Bears before heading to Mankato, Minn. to challenge the Mavericks of Minnesota State University, Mankato. UIU split the season series with Concordia-St. Paul last season thanks to a 71-68 win at the Gangelhoff Center, but Minnesota State swept UIU a year ago.

SUITED FOR THE NORTHERN SUN… Sophomore transfer Blair Klostermann led the Peacocks last weekend. The Dyersville native tallied 18 points against Southwest Minnesota State University on Friday, and dropped 20 points versus the University of Sioux Falls while shooting 80% from the field on Saturday. Klostermann has put up double digit numbers in her last four games, including her season high of 21 points in the conference opener at Winona State.

OPEN 24/7... Sophomore Haley Martin, a product of Mound, Minn., wears No. 24 and is averaging 7 points a game this season. She has hit the double-digit mark in scoring in her last two games including her first start for Upper Iowa on Saturday against Sioux Falls. The Peacock forward tallied 14 points versus the Mustangs on Friday and then added 11 points and 8 rebounds on Saturday against the Cougars.

CHASING HISTORY... After picking up 22 points last weekend, senior center Carly Pagel is now just 20 points away from reaching 900 in her career. Pagel is attempting to become just the 12th Peacock women's basketball player to reach that lofty plateau.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN BEARS... Concordia - St. Paul is coming off of a weekend split against Augustana University and Wayne State College. CSP played a strong first half against AU, but a big third quarter run by the Vikings was too much for the Golden Bears. In the loss, only five players scratched the scoring column. On Saturday against WSC, CSP scored 26 points off turnovers, while converting 61.1% of their shots from beyond the arc. Four Golden Bears reached double digits led by Anna Schmitt, who averaged 18.5 points per game, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists over the weekend.

SCOUTING THE MAVERICKS... Minnesota State is coming off their first-ever program win at Rice Auditorium in Wayne, Neb. and a nine-point loss to the Vikings. The Mavericks shot 70% from the free throw line at WSC and recorded a season-high 15 steals. Minnesota State won the rebound battle at Augustana, 48-36, despite the 89-80 loss. Senior Britney Scherber netted a season-high 21 points while freshman Taylor Klug contributed a career-best 18 points and added a team-high four steals against Wayne State College. Two Mavericks reached double digit points at Augustana: junior Claire Ziegler (20) and senior Sammie Delzotto (19).
