The Peacocks dropped their second game at the Drury Inn Tip-Off Tournament in St. Joseph, Mo. UIU fell to the host Griffons of Missouri Western State University 85-51 despite winning the rebounding battle 33-31. Turnovers plagued the Peacocks as the Griffons turned 26 turnovers into a 27-8 advantage in points off turnovers.
After the home team took a seven-point lead into the first quarter break, Upper iowa came charging back in the second quarter to cut the gap to two points, 29-27, fueled by a pair of buckets each from
Blair Klostermann and
Carly Pagel. MWSU didn't let the momentum turn to UIU for long closing out the frame on a 9-0 run to extend their lead to 11 points.
The run continued in the second half as the lead continued to grow to 20 points, 47-27, three minutes into the third quarter. The lead reached a high mark of 37 points before finally settling at 34 at the final buzzer, 85-51.
Ashley Ray led the Peacocks on the afternoon with 14 points, while Klostermann added 9 and Pagel and Ofstad chipped in 7 apiece.
Kari Fitzpatrick pulled down a team-high 7 rebounds.
UIU will travel to Romeoville, Ill. on Wednesday, Nov. 16, to face off against the Flyers of Lewis University at 7 p.m.
