THIS WEEKEND IN PEACOCK BASKETBALL… Upper Iowa will finish off a season-long, four-game road trip as they travel 1,421 miles into North Dakota and back this weekend. On Friday, UIU will take on the Beavers of Minot State University (7-9, 4-6 NSIC) in the MSU Dome in Minot before traveling to the McDowell Activity Center to take on the Marauders of the University of Mary (8-10, 2-8 NSIC) in Bismarck on Saturday. The Peacocks are currently sixth in the NSIC South Division standings, while the Beavers and Marauders are in fifth and seventh place in the North Division, respectively.
SPLITSVILLE ON THE ROAD… The Peacocks are coming off of a split last weekend on the road in the Northern Sun Conference. UIU earned a 69-61 win in Marshall, Minn. against the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs thanks to a 15-2 run over the final four minutes. Four Peacocks hit double digits in the scoring column including
Whitney Kieffer,
Aleesha Cleaver,
Sam Ofstad and
Carly Pagel. The win over SMSU was the team's ninth straight against the Mustangs dating back to January of 2012. Upper Iowa fell in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Saturday at the hands of the Sioux Falls Cougars. USF shot 50% in the game to take the win 84-63. Pagel and Cleaver both reached double figures at the Stewart Center.
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS… Minot State is coming off of a weekend sweep at the hands of the Northern State Wolves and MSU Moorhead Dragons. MiSU only hit five three-pointers in the two games while surrendering 20 triples including 14 to the Dragons. Kari Clements led the Beavers coming off the bench with 21 points on the weekend including 13 against MSU Moorhead. Savana Kingsbury recorded a double-double on Saturday with 11 points and 10 rebounds. The team is currently on a season-long, three-game losing streak.
INVESTIGATING THE MARAUDERS... U-Mary is also coming off of a pair of losses at MSUM and NSU last weekend. The Marauders fell to MSU Moorhead, 75-58, before a 73-70 overtime thriller with Northern State. The Marauders were led by Hannah Larson, who averaged 19.5 points and 7.0 rebounds on 51.9% shooting over the weekend. Brittney Dietz added 16.5 points and 4.0 boards, while Dani Williams chipped in 14.0 points and 3.5 rebounds. UIU defeated U-Mary in their sole meeting last season 74-60 in Fayette.
