Warriors Undefeated Season Rolls On as Defense Stifles Peacocks

#9 Winona State 69 - Upper Iowa 31. The Warriors defense forced 19 turnovers and held the Peacocks to just 19% shooting in the final NSIC game of 2015.

The #9 Warriors of Winona State University improved to 13-0 this season and 6-0 in the Northern Sun Conference with a 69-31 win over the Peacock women's basketball team.  The home team's defense stifled the Upper Iowa offense and limited the visitor's top three scorers to a total of four points.  UIU is now 3-9 on the season and 2-4 in the NSIC.

Winona State limited their guests to only 12 field goals on the afternoon on 19% shooting and held UIU's quarter point totals to 5,13,1 and 12.  Sam Ofstad was the lone Peacock to reach double digits in the scoring column on the day; the junior guard scored 10 points including 6 on a pair of threes in the first half.  Haley Martin added 8 and Madi Meier netted 6 points off the bench.

In addition to UIU's cold shooting, the team also was hampered by turnovers.  The Peacocks gave the ball away 19 times with 11 coming on Winona State steals that led to transition opportunities for the home team.

Winona State's attack was balanced as 12 Warriors marked the scoreboard led by Tara Roelofs (12) and Kayla Timmerman (10).  The Warriors converted over 48% of their shots including knocking down 7 of their 15 three-pointers (46.7%).

The Peacocks will take a break for the holidays and return to Dorman Gym for a pair of NSIC home games.  Upper Iowa will host Minnesota State University Moorhead on Saturday, Jan. 2, at 4 p.m. and Northern State University on Sunday, Jan. 3, at 2 p.m.
