THIS WEEKEND IN PEACOCK BASKETBALL... Upper Iowa will take the short trip to Winona, Minn. to face off against the #9 Warriors of Winona State University. The Peacocks and Warriors will match up for the second time this season. The teams' opened the Northern Sun Conference season on Nov. 28; WSU defeated UIU 83-58 in Fayette. The game will be Upper Iowa's final contest in 2015. The team will return to Dorman Gym to kick off 2016 with Minnesota State University Moorhead and Northern State University on Jan. 2-3.
THE FIRST MEETING WITH THE WARRIORS... The #11 Warriors remained perfect on the season after defeating Upper Iowa, 83-58. The Peacocks played a gritty first quarter and trailed their nationally-ranked guests by only one, but the Warriors defense stood tall for the opening five minutes of both the second and third quarters allowing the visitors to build a big lead. In the end, Winona State posted the 25-point win. Tara Roelofs was on fire for the Warriors hitting 10 of her 16 attempts including 4 of 5 from deep for 26 points. She was joined in double figures by Kayla Timmerman (16) and Hannah McGlone (14). Timmerman also had a game-high 9 rebounds and 6 blocks, while Connor Nagle scored 5 points, pulled down 5 rebounds and handed out 10 assists.
Whitney Kieffer led three players in double figures with 11 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists.
Aleesha Cleaver chipped in 10 points, 4 assists and 3 rebounds, while Ofstad added 11 points.
Madi Meier grabbed a team-high 6 rebounds and tallied 3 assists.
SENIOR CITIZENS... Senior guards
Aleesha Cleaver and
Whitney Kieffer are accounting for over 44% of the team's scoring average. Cleaver is netting a team-high 14.7 points per game and Kieffer is adding 13 points a contest. Kieffer is also registering a team-high 6.1 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.8 steals per game, while shooting 88.1% from the charity stripe. Cleaver is pulling in 4.2 rebounds, while handing out 2.2 assists and grabbing 1 steal a game.
SEEING DOUBLE... Upper Iowa's posts,
Carly Pagel and
Karlee Grabau, are starting to impose their will in the paint. Pagel, a junior, is averaging 9.5 points and 5.4 rebounds per game while shooting 41.8% from the field, while Grabau, a freshman, is chipping in 3.8 points and 3.8 rebounds a contest.
FRESH FACES IN THE BACKCOURT... Junior transfer

Brooklyn Schamens are a pair of new faces for Peacock fans in the backcourt this season. Ofstad is averaging 6.2 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists, while Schamens has returned from injury and is scoring 5.9 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1 assist per game at the point for the Peacocks.
