THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK BASKETBALL... Upper Iowa hosts the Bulldogs of Truman State University on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. and the Warriors of Winona State University on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.  The Bulldogs will be UIU's final non-conference opponent of the season prior to the Warriors and Peacocks opening Northern Sun Conference play.  Peacock Head Coach Carol Russell and Bulldog Head Coach Amy Eagan have known each other for a long time.  Russell was the assistant coach for the Truman State Bulldogs under Karin Nicholls from 1995-2000 and coached Eagan while she earned all-America honors at Truman.

NOTES ON THE BULLDOGS... The Bulldogs are 3-2 on the young season after winning two of three during the most recent homestand. Seniors Michalina Tomczak and Courtney Strait lead the Bulldogs in scoring through the first five games. Tomczak is averaging 11 points and five rebounds per game while adding 10 blocks. Her 70 career blocks is currently fifth in Truman history and she is 12 back of former Bulldog Sarah Sommer for fourth all-time. Tomczak has been in double figures in three of the five games this season and has scored 14 and 16 points in her last two outings. Strait started the season with games of 18 and 13 points apiece but has had a quiet home stretch with a six point average during the three games. She is averaging 9.8 points per game while dishing out 10 assists and grabbing five steals. As a team, Truman is shooting 44% overall and 29% from three. On the defensive end, Truman has limited opponents to 50.0 points per game with 17 blocked shots, a 34% shooting percentage and 25% from three.

LOOKING AT THE WARRIORS... The #11 Winona State Warriors have lived up to their preseason praise, earning a 6-0 start this season. The Warriors swept three games at the Disney Tip-Off Classic in California before beating Saint Mary's 90-68, UW-Eau Claire and Viterbo in nonconference play in McCown Gym. WSU's top four scorers have picked up where they left off from strong seasons a year ago. After each finished in double figures in points per game last season, the tune is the same this year, as through six games Alexis Foley (14.2), Tara Roelofs (12.8), Kayla Timmerman (12.0) and Connor Nagle (11.0) are all above 10 points per game again.

LEAVE IT TO CLEAVER... Senior guard Aleesha Cleaver led the team with a 17.3 point average last week as UIU went 1-2 with a win over the University of Missouri-St. Louis.  She added 3.7 rebounds and 3 assists per game in the three games.  The big week brought Cleaver's points per game up to 14.4 and the guard is shooting 35% from behind the arc.

REDSHIRTS RETURN… Senior Whitney Kieffer and junior Carly Pagel have returned from a reshirt season due to injury last year and are playing well.  Kieffer leads the team with 14.8 points and 6.4 rebounds, while Pagel is averaging 12.2 points and 6.2 boards per game.  Pagel is converting 56.8% of her shots, while Kieffer is taking advantage of her time at the line hitting 83.3% of her attempts.
