Upper Iowa Returns to Fayette for Cross Division Contests

The Peacocks welcome the Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles and the Bemidji State Beavers to Prochaska Court in Dorman Gymnasium on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 30-31.

THIS WEEKEND IN PEACOCK BASKETBALL...  Upper Iowa returns home this weekend for a pair of Northern Sun Conference cross-division games to close out the month of January.   The Peacocks will welcome the Golden Eagles of the University of Minnesota Crookston on Friday at 6 p.m. and then take the court against the Beavers of Bemidji State University on Saturday at 4 p.m.  The games will mark the first meeting of these teams during the 2014-15 regular season.  A year ago, the Peacocks traveled to northern Minnesota dropping both games; the Golden Eagles won 80-69 and the Beavers came out on top of a 64-59 decision.  Minnesota Crookston comes into the game tied for third place in the NSIC North, while Bemidji State occupies the 8th spot.  UIU will have some special guests in the crowd on Friday as the preschool and kindergarten classes of North Fayette Valley Community Schools will be in attendance. The team has spent time this year reading to the classes at their school.
 
LAST WEEK'S GOLDEN EAGLE LEADER... Katrina Moenkedick averaged 10 points and 7.5 rebounds per game as the Golden Eagles lost a pair of games to MSU Moorhead and #15 Northern State. Moenkedick tallied 12 points and nine rebounds in the 68-63 loss to MSU Moorhead Friday. Moenkedick was 6-of-15 from the field and added an assist and a steal against the Dragons.  Saturday, Moenkedick tallied eight points and six boards. She was 4-of-10 from the field. Moenkedick is averaging 14.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per game on the season.
 
LAST WEEK'S BEAVER LEADER...  Bemidji State hit the road this last weekend to take on #15 Northern State and MSU Moorhead.  The Beavers fell to both teams by scores of 72-44 and 94-74, respectively.  The Beavers were paced by redshirt freshman Sierra Senske on the weekend averaging 18.5 points per game including 23 points against MSU Moorhead Saturday.  She has now led BSU's scoring 11 times this season. Senske now ranks 11th in the league for scoring with a 14.8 average after 19 games played and ranks fourth in field goal percentage, posting a 51.9 rating.
 
LAST WEEK'S PEACOCK LEADERS...  Upper Iowa lost a pair of NSIC South Division games on the road to Wayne State (69-38) and Augustana (87-65) last week.  Lauren Buck led the team with 10.5 points, 15 rebounds and 2 assists per game recording a double-double against Augie with 11 points and 16 boards.  Olivia Winkler averaged 9.5 points while shooting 64.3% from the field.  The Peacocks did win the rebounding battle for the weekend by 4 rebounds per game averaging 42.5.
 
NSIC STAT LEADERS... Lauren Buck leads the Northern Sun in double-doubles (12), rebounds/game (11.8) and defensive rebounds/game (10).  Olivia Winkler is posting the highest field goal percentage in the NSIC (59.0%).
