THIS WEEKEND IN PEACOCK BASKETBALL... Upper Iowa heads out on the road this weekend after two straight weekends at home. The Peacocks travel west to face the Wildcats of Wayne State College, who just dropped out of the latest WBCA Top 25 Poll, and Augustana College. UIU is coming off a big win at home over the University of Mary last Saturday as they look to build on the balanced scoring and tough defense they showed against the Marauders. Wayne State will bring the second highest scoring offense (77.8 ppg) in the Northern Sun, while Augie boasts the top scoring offense (79.3 ppg) in the conference. Upper Iowa will have to step up on defense to slow down their hosts; the Peacocks average allowing 74.6 ppg, 15th in the conference.
LAST WEEK'S WILDCAT LEADER... Jordan Spencer averaged 16.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game in road wins at Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State last week. She scored season-high 24 points on 8 of 12 shooting and a perfect 8 for 8 at the foul line while also grabbing eight rebounds in 82-63 win at St. Cloud State. Spencer shot 60% from the field (12-20) and 88.9 percent (8-9) at the foul line over the weekend. She now has six games of 20 or more points this season and has scored double digits in 15 of 18 games this season.
LAST WEEK'S VIKING LEADER... Nicole Kerkhoff put up some impressive numbers for the Vikings, who went 1-1on a tough road trip up north this past weekend. The Morgan, Minn. native scored a team-high 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting in a 79-70 win over St. Cloud State on Saturday at Halenbeck Hall. Kerkhoff also grabbed a team-leading nine rebounds in the game. She followed up Friday's big game with her fourth double-double of the year in a loss to Minnesota Duluth on Saturday, finishing with 18 points and 16 rebounds. For the weekend, Kerkhoff posted averages of 19.0 points, 12.5 rebounds, 1 steal, 60.9 field goal percentage (14 of 23) and a great 90.9 free throw percentage (10 of 11).
LAST WEEK'S PEACOCK LEADERS...
Lauren Buck averaged 22 points and 13.5 rebounds per game as UIU split with Minot State and U-Mary at home. The Anamosa, Iowa native added two assists, two blocks and five steals while knocking down 3 of her 6 three-point attempts. Buck now has 11 double-doubles, including seven straight games, this season to lead the NSIC. Lindsay Carroll averaged 16.5 points and 2.5 assists per game for UIU converting 54.5% from three (6-11) and 81.8% (9-11) from the free throw line.
Olivia Meier had her best week of the season averaging 12.5 points and 2 rebounds per game.
NSIC STAT LEADERS...
Lauren Buck leads the Northern Sun in double-doubles (11), rebounds per game (11.4) and defensive rebounds per game (10).
Olivia Winkler is posting the highest field goal percentage in the NSIC (58.5%).
