WEEKLY NOTES
UPPER IOWA | MINOT STATE | U-MARY | NORTHERN SUN
THIS WEEKEND IN UIU BASKETBALL... The Peacocks continue their homestand this weekend with a pair of cross-division games. UIU is 0-2 this season against the NSIC North, but fought hard losing close decisions on the road against the division's top two teams in MSU Moorhead and Northern State. This weekend, Upper Iowa will host Minot State University and the University of Mary. Last year, the Peacocks lost both sides of a home weekend to the Beavers (77-67) and Marauders (64-60). UIU also drew Minot State for the first round of the NSIC Sanford Health Basketball Tournament; the Peacocks nearly pulled off the upset on the road losing by one, 74-73.
NEON NIGHT ON SATURDAY... The Peacocks will be hosting a Neon Night on Saturday when UIU plays host to U-Mary. In an effort to raise awareness for the Upper Iowa Dance Marathon, which will take place on April 25, 2015, all fans in attendance are asked to wear neon. The purpose of the Dance Marathon is to celebrate the work that the Iowa Children's Hospital does in the lives of countless children and help support its continuation through fundraising efforts on local campuses. For more information, visit the Dance Marathon Facebook page (www.facebook.com/uiudm) or follow the Dance Marathon on Twitter (@UIUDM).
LAST WEEK FOR THE BEAVERS... Minot State University saw its losing streak run to three as the Beavers dropped a pair of games to NSIC North Division rivals #6 Northern State and MSU Moorhead. The Beavers couldn't keep pace with Northern State's stifling defense, falling 66-47 to the Wolves Friday. In Saturday's contest, Minot State led nearly every minute of the game and had a double-figures lead in the second half, but couldn't hold on, falling 67-64 to MSUM. Alex Haley averaged 15.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 on the weekend. Christina Boag scored a game-high 19 points and added seven rebounds in the loss to MSUM and moved to within 46 points of becoming Minot State's sixth player with 1,000 career points and 500 career rebounds.
LAST WEEK FOR THE MARAUDERS... The Marauders split a pair of NSIC home games last weekend defeating MSU Moorhead 69-64 in Bismarck on Friday and dropping a 73-56 to #6 Northern State. Dani Clarke averaged 13.5 points per game against the Dragons and Wolves. She recorded 13 points against MSUM adding 3 steals and 7 rebounds. Clarke finished with 14 points against NSU with 4 rebounds.
TRIPLE THREAT... Seniors Lauren Buck, Lindsay Carroll and Olivia Winkler are leading the Peacocks on both ends of the floor this season. Buck has posted nine double-doubles in points and rebounds, which ranks 18th in the nation and 2nd in the conference. She is averaging 15.4 points (8th NSIC) and an NSIC-best 11.1 rebounds per game (20th NCAA), while converting 84.4% of her free throws (4th NSIC) and blocking 1.36 shots per game (8th NSIC).
