TODAY IN PEACOCK BASKETBALL... Upper Iowa welcomes the Warriors of Winona State University to Dorman Gym for UIU's Toys for Tots game. WSU comes in as the top dog in the NSIC South with a record of 8-1 overall and a 4-1 mark in conference play, while UIU sits at 3-6 overall and 1-4 in the NSIC. The Warriors boast the fourth-best scoring offense and the third-best scoring defense in the conference which translates into the NSIC's second highest scoring margin on 20.3. UIU's defense will be the key to the game as the Warriors are shooting conference-highs of 47.2 percent from the field, 41.6 percent from three and 77.9 percent at the charity stripe. FIRST MEETING IN WINONA... The Peacocks struggled to score from the field in the first half while the Warriors nearly hit the half-century mark. Upper Iowa outscored their hosts by two in the second half, but the hole was too large to climb out of. WSU won the game 85-69 to remain undefeated. Lauren Buck scored a team-high 19 points with 7 coming at free throw line, while Lindsay Carroll netted 13 points with 10 coming at the charity stripe. In total, the Peacocks netted 28 of 34 free throw attempts to account for 40% of their points. Buck pulled down 9 rebounds coming up one board shy of her third straight double-double.
LAST WEEKEND FOR THE WARRIORS... Winona State produced a weekend sweep against a pair of rivals and quality opponents. The Warriors beat Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota State at home each by double digits, beating the Golden Bears 71-61 before downing the Mavericks 73-62.
LEADING WINONA STATE... Tara Roelofs leads the Warriors with 13.2 points, 2.8 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game while shooting 49.4 percent from the floor and 42.9 percent from behind the arc. Three other Warriors join Roelofs in double-figure scoring including Kayla Timmerman, Connor Nagle and Alexis Foley. Timmerman is the leading rebounder with 6.8 per contest.
LEADING THE PEACOCKS... Lauren Buck has opponents seeing double this season; the senior forward has four double-doubles in her last six games and is ranked 2nd in the NSIC in that category. Buck leads the conference in defensive rebounding with 8 per game and is second in the NSIC in total rebounding with a 10.1 per game average to go along with her 13.0 points a game. Lindsay Carroll is pacing the offense for the Peacocks with 13.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. The Peacock sharp-shooter is knocking down 45.2% (14-31) of her attempts from beyond the arc and 79.4% (50-63) of her free throws. Olivia Winkler is converting 63.0% of her field goal attempts to average 13.0 points. The senior post is also pulling down 4.4 rebounds per game. Aleesha Cleaver is the fourth and final Peacock with a double-figure scoring average; the junior transfer is netting 11.8 points a game after her career-high 22 against Concordia-St. Paul.
