THIS WEEKEND IN PEACOCK BASKETBALL... The Peacocks will kick off their home NSIC schedule this weekend in Dorman Gymnasium as they welcome the Mavericks of Minnesota State University, Mankato and the Golden Bears of Concordia University, St. Paul. The Mavericks were picked fourth in the NSIC preseason coaches poll, while the Golden Bears were selected as the preseason favorite earning 10 first-place votes. In the latest USA TODAY Sports NCAA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll, Minnesota State is receiving votes. Prior to the start of action on Friday, the women's basketball team will hang a banner in Dorman for their #1 ranking among all divisions of college basketball on the WBCA Academic Top-25 Team Honor Roll last season. LAST WEEK FOR THE MINNESOTA STATE MAVERICKS (5-2, 2-0 NSIC)... Lexie Ulfers posted her first two career doubles-doubles this past weekend to lead the Mavericks to back-to-back wins in the NSIC. In Friday's win against Augustana, she recorded 15 points and 10 rebounds, along with two blocks. During Saturday's win over #2 Wayne State, the senior bested her numbers from the night before with 20 points and 11 rebounds. For the weekend, Ulfers averaged 17.5 points and 10.5 rebounds, to go along with three blocks and one steal.
LAST WEEK FOR THE CONCORDIA-ST. PAUL GOLDEN BEARS (5-3, 1-1 NSIC)... Anika Whiting averaged a team-high 16.0 points and 11.0 rebounds as CU went 1-1 in a pair of NSIC games last weekend. She shot 42.9% from the floor and recorded double-doubles in both games with at least 14 points and 11 rebounds in each game. CU split with #2 Wayne State and Augustana in a pair of close games forcing 35 turnovers by the Wildcats and Vikings. In Friday's game with WSC, the teams swapped the lead 19 times and tied 8 times; Concordia led 54-53 with 1:06 left, but the Wildcats pulled away to win 60-57. Saturday's game also came down to the wire as Lauren Shifflett hit a free throw with 10 seconds left to give the Golden Bears a 78-77 win over Augie. Shifflett had a career high 15 points and five rebounds in the win
LEADING THE PEACOCKS... Lauren Buck has opponents seeing double this season; the senior forward has three double-doubles in her last four games and is ranked 3rd in the NSIC in that category. Buck leads the conference in defensive rebounding with 7 per game and is second in the NSIC in total rebounding with a 9.7 per game average to go along with her 11.9 points a game.
Lindsay Carroll is leading the offense for the Peacocks with 14.3 points (9th NSIC), 4.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists (7th NSIC) per game. The Peacock sharp-shooter is knocking down 52.2% (12-23) of her attempts from beyond the arc and 77.8% (42-54) of her free throws.
Olivia Winkler is converting 64.1% of her field goal attempts to average 13.6 points. The senior post is also pulling down 3.3 rebounds per game.
Aleesha Cleaver is the fourth and final Peacock with a double-figure scoring average; the junior transfer is netting 10.2 points a game.
