The #9 Flyers of Lewis used a high-flying offense in the first half to secure a 14-point lead at halftime and then turned the defense loose in the second half holding the Peacocks to 18 points on the way to a 101-62 win. With the loss, UIU falls to 1-2 on the season, while Lewis improves to 3-0 on the year.
Lauren Buck led the Peacocks with a double-double thanks to 18 points and 10 rebounds, while
Olivia Winkler netted 12 points and
Aleesha Cleaver added 11 points. The three Peacocks that reached double figures in scoring all converted at least five shots, but no other UIU player made more than two buckets.
Lindsay Carroll struggled shooting, but pulled down 6 rebounds and handed out 4 assists.
Upper Iowa and Lewis had a hard time stopping each other through the first fifteen minutes; the Flyers had a 39-35 lead with five and a half minutes remaining in the half. The home team closed out the half on a 19-9 run claiming a 58-44 lead into the break.
The Flyers defense frustrated the Peacocks offense in the second half holding UIU to 16.7% (5-30) shooting as Lewis ran out to a 101-62 decision.
The Peacocks will open their home slate on Tuesday, Nov. 25, when they welcome the Rangers of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside to Dorman Gym at 7 p.m.
