THIS WEEKEND IN PEACOCK BASKETBALL... After the holiday break, the Peacocks return to the court this weekend for a pair of games in northern Minnesota. Upper Iowa will challenge the Golden Eagles of the University of Minnesota Crookston on Friday and then move over to face the Beavers of Bemidji State University on Saturday. Both games will tip at 4 p.m. UIU's defense will look to slow down a pair of offenses that are both averaging over 76 points a game. Peacock defenders have held their opponents in the 60's or lower in four of their ten games.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE GOLDEN EAGLES AND BEAVERS... Bemidji State snapped a three-game losing streak when it defeated Minnesota Crookston 75-66 in a home contest that wrapped the 2013 calendar year. The Beavers trailed by as much as 12 in the first half, but closed the final eight minutes on a 19-5 run to hold a 36-32 halftime lead and never trailed by more than two possessions the rest of the way. BSU's Kate Warmack recorded a career night against the Golden Eagles as she compiled 24 points and 17 rebounds. She shot 9-for-16 (56.3%) from the field and was 6-for-9 (66.7%) from the free throw line with two steals, one block, one assist and just one turnover in 30 minutes of play. Her 17 rebounds tied a career high established earlier this season, while it marked the eighth time she totaled 10 or more rebounds in a game (leads NSIC) this season. Warmack posted her seventh double-double of the season, which ties for the league lead.

LAST YEAR'S DORMAN DOMINATION... Whitney Kieffer averaged 24.5 points per game as the Peacocks swept Minnesota, Crookston and Bemidji State in Dorman Gym. Kieffer scored her second-best total of the season on Friday night against the Golden Eagles pouring in 30 points and followed up with 19 versus the Beavers on Saturday. Upper Iowa had only swept a weekend in the Northern Sun one other time; UIU defeated U-Mary and Northern State in late January of 2008. Two other Peacocks joined Kieffer in double figures; Sam Thrapp averaged 13 points, Laura TerHark scored 12.5 points, while Carly Pagel netted 11 points per game.

13 IN 2014... Junior Whitney Kieffer is averaging 17.5 points (77th NCAA/8th NSIC) per game and is now shooting 46.9% (12th NSIC) from the floor and 91.8% (18th NCAA/5th NSIC) from the free throw line. Kieffer also adds 4.9 rebounds, 2.2 steals (7th NSIC) and 2 assists per game for the Peacocks. The Scales Mound, Ill. native continues her climb up the all-time scoring list at UIU with 1,146 points (66 games - 17.4 ppg). The all-time leader in points is Hall of Famer Vicky (Ringenberg) Rarick (1995-99) with 1,431.
