This Weekend in Peacock Basketball...  Upper Iowa is preparing for their longest NSIC road trip of the season this coming weekend.  The Peacocks will head nearly 700 miles into North Dakota on Friday to face the Beavers of Minot State University at 6 p.m. on Friday night before heading back down to Bismarck to meet the Marauders of the University of Mary on Saturday evening at 4 p.m.  The weekend of action is the NSIC’s first crossover between the North and South Divisions.  While the Peacocks have opened up 1-6 against the south teams, the Beavers are 2-5 and the Marauders are 3-4 against the north.
 
Peacocks and Marauders on TV…  Fans throughout central and western North Dakota will have the opportunity to watch the Peacock and Marauder men’s and women’s basketball teams this weekend. The NBC North Dakota Sports Network will broadcast the doubleheader on Saturday, January 12, from the McDowell Activity Center on the U-Mary campus.  The NBC North Dakota Sports Network starts its coverage of the Marauders-Peacocks games at 4 PM. The broadcast will originate from KFYR-TV in Bismarck, ND, and can also be viewed on KMOT-TV in Minot, KUMV-TV in Williston, and KQCD-TV in Dickinson.
 
“Whit”-ty Remarks...  Whitney Kieffer is 3rd in the NSIC and 26th in the nation in scoring at 18.6 points per game; the Scales Mound, Ill. product is also second in the NSIC and 20th nationally in steals with 3.4 per game and 14th in the conference in rebounding at 7.1 per contest.  She was named the NSIC’s first Player of the Week this season after scoring 31 points and pulling down 10 boards against William Jewell.
 
New Faces Driving the “Car”... Newcomers Carly Pagel and Lindsay Carroll have made big impacts in their first year with the Peacocks.  Pagel, a freshman, has improved her averages since UIU moved into the NSIC season.  Pagel is 29th in the NSIC is scoring with 10.9 points per game this year, but is netting 13 points per NSIC contest while shooting 45% (36-80) in those games.  She is also averaging more than 6 rebounds per game this season, which ranks 20th in the NSIC.  Sophomore Lindsay Carroll is averaging 9.6 points per game for UIU and is third on the team in scoring thanks to her accuracy at the free throw and three-point lines. The Western Illinois transfer has made all but six of her 42 attempts at the charity stripe while shooting 43.8% (24-53) from the three-point line which is tied for 4th in the NSIC. Her 85.7% conversion rate at the free throw line is tied 7th best in the conference and 52nd best in the country.  Despite measuring up at 5-6, Carroll is averaging 4.3 rebounds per game including a 5.6 average in seven NSIC games.
 
“Buck” Season... Sophomore Lauren Buck has come on of late and contributed 6.9 points and 4 rebounds over the last seven games.  The Anamosa, Iowa native is shooting 53.1% (17-32) over that span from the floor and is converting 80% (12-15) of her free throws.  Buck has tallied 8 blocks and 4 steals in the last six games.
 
Sam’s Serving... Junior Sam Thrapp continues to control the Peacock offense with 4 assists per game (4th in NSIC), while posting the 11th best assist to turnover ratio in the NSIC at 1.24.
