Peacocks to Open New Year in Fayette

The Peacocks will welcome the Cougars of Sioux Falls on Friday at 6 p.m. and the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday at 6 p.m.

This Weekend in Peacock Basketball...  Upper Iowa returns from the holiday break to host the Cougars of the University of Sioux Falls and the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State University this Friday and Saturday in Fayette.  Sioux Falls enters the weekend with a 5-4 mark overall and a 2-3 record in NSIC play; the Cougars snapped a three-game losing streak with a 77-64 victory over Minnesota State prior to the break.  Southwest Minnesota State is 1-9 overall and 0-5 in the NSIC; the Mustangs are currently on a six-game losing streak.
  
Lucky Number 13...  Whitney Kieffer (#13) is 3rd in the NSIC and 32nd in the nation in scoring at 18.9 points per game; the Scales Mound, Ill. product is also first in the NSIC and 34th nationally in steals with 3.2 per game and 11th in the conference in rebounding at 7.4 per contest.  She was named the NSIC’s first Player of the Week this season after opening her sophomore campaign with her third career double-double. Kieffer scored 31 points and pulled down 10 boards against William Jewell; she also added 6 steals and 3 assists.
 
Carroll Locked In at the Line... Lindsay Carroll is averaging 9.7 points per game for UIU and is third on the team in scoring thanks to her accuracy at the free throw and three-point lines. The Western Illinois transfer has made all but four of her 36 attempts at the charity stripe while shooting 46.5% (20-43) from the three-point line which ranks sixth in the NSIC. Her 88.9% conversion rate at the free throw line is tied 4th best in the conference and 24th best in the country.  Despite measuring up at 5-6, Carroll is averaging 4.2 rebounds per game including a 5.8 average in five NSIC games.
 
Herrick’s On Target... Senior Jennifer Herrick is fourth on the UIU roster in scoring with 7.1 points per game and she is on target from beyond the arc.  Herrick has hit 37.1% (13-35) of her three-point attempts and has converted 16 of her 18 attempts at the charity stripe this year.
 
Pagel Heating Up… Freshman Carly Pagel has improved her averages since UIU moved into the NSIC season.  Pagel is averaging 10.5 points per game this year, but is netting 12.8 points per NSIC contest while shooting nearly 47.4% (27-57) in those games.  She is also averaging more than 6 rebounds per game.
 
Sam’s Serving... Junior Sam Thrapp is averaging 4 assists per game, while posting a 1.2 assist to turnover ratio.
