This Weekend in Peacock Basketball...  Upper Iowa will take the road for two NSIC games against a pair of South Division foes.  The Peacocks will face the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State University on Friday and the Cougars of the University of Sioux Falls on Saturday.  Last week, Upper Iowa went 2-1 as part of Stormin’ Dorman Week with a loss against Winona State and a weekend sweep of Minnesota, Crookston and Bemidji State.

Round One with the Mustangs... The Peacocks dominated the glass claiming a 12-rebound advantage en route to their first NSIC victory of the season, 80-59, over the Mustangs. The Peacocks raced out to an 18-4 lead just over seven minutes into the game.  The hot start was fueled by scores off the hands of six different players and was capped off by a Sam Thrapp three-pointer.  The home team didn’t shoot well from the floor, but took advantage of 33 free throw opportunities hitting 26 of them (78.8%) and made the most of their time with the ball.  UIU turned the ball over a season-low 10 times.  Carly Pagel led the team in scoring with 19 points, while Whitney Kieffer added 18; both players took advantage of their time on the charity stripe nailing 9 and 8, respectively.

Act One: The Cougars and Peacocks... The Peacocks lost a heartbreaker in Fayette to open the New Year; the Cougars of the University of Sioux Falls escaped Dorman Gym with a two-point win, 70-68.  While Upper Iowa created extra opportunities with the ball by forcing 28 Cougar turnovers, Sioux Falls countered by pulling in 13 offensive rebounds and winning the rebound battle, 40-32.  Laura Johnson led all scorers with 24 points and also pulled down 15 rebounds to record a double-double.  Whitney Kieffer scored a team-high 16 points, while Sam Thrapp added 14 and 4 assists.
