NSIC Weekly Release

This Week in Peacock Basketball...  Upper Iowa returns home this week to host a trio of games against a mix of NSIC South and North Division teams.  The Peacocks will entertain the Warriors of Winona State on Tuesday night and UIU is encouraging a White Out in Dorman.  WSU has won both meetings with Upper Iowa this season with one coming in Fairbanks, Alaska and one in Winona.  The Peacocks will then welcome the Golden Eagles of Minnesota, Crookston on Friday night and the Beavers of Bemidji State on Saturday night.  UIU split with the Golden Eagles and lost both to the Beavers a season ago.  All three games will tip at 6 p.m.

“Whit”-ty Remarks...  Whitney Kieffer is tied for 2nd in the NSIC and 25th in the nation in scoring at 18.8 points per game; the Scales Mound, Ill. product sits atop the NSIC and 19th nationally in steals with 3.3 per game and 14th in the conference in rebounding at 7.0 per contest.  Kieffer is also 60th in the country and 8th in the Northern Sun with a 84.2% (96-114) at the free throw line.

New Faces Driving the “Car”... Newcomers Carly Pagel and Lindsay Carroll have made big impacts in their first year with the Peacocks.  Pagel, a freshman, is 25th in the NSIC in scoring with 11.5 points per game this year, including a 13.6 point average in NSIC contests.  She is also averaging more than 6.2 rebounds per game this season, which ties for 18th in the NSIC.  Sophomore Lindsay Carroll is averaging 9.1 points per game for UIU and is third on the team in scoring thanks to her accuracy at the free throw and three-point lines. The Western Illinois transfer has made all but seven of her 48 attempts at the charity stripe while shooting 44.1% (26-59) from the three-point line which is tied for 6th in the NSIC. Her 85.4% conversion rate at the free throw line is tied 6th best in the conference and 47th best in the country.  Despite measuring up at 5-6, Carroll is averaging 3.9 rebounds per game including a 4.6 average in nine NSIC games.
