Marauders Defeat the Peacocks Up in Bismarck

U-Mary 85 - Upper Iowa 76

Box Score UIU was in Bismarck, North Dakota tonight to take on the Marauders of the University of Mary. Eleven treys helped U-Mary defeat Upper Iowa by a score of 85-76. With the loss, the Peacocks fall to 4-12 overall and 1-8 in the Northern Sun. UM improves to 10-5 on the season including 5-4 in NSIC action.

In the first four minutes of the game, Upper Iowa scored the first seven points as part of an 11-4 run. Five of the 11 came from Carly Pagel. U-Mary then came back to take their first lead of the game at 13-12 with just over 13 minutes left to play in the first half.  The Peacocks wouldn’t have another lead the rest the way.
 
After a free throw from Sam Thrapp tied the game up at 13-13, UIU took the lead and held it until the 8:28 mark. The Marauders recaptured the advantage and led by as my as 14, 37-23. A 14-5 charge cut the deficit to five, 42-37 heading into the locker rooms.
 
In the second half, U-Mary led by as many as 15, 75-60 with 3:42 to play in the game. The home team went on to an 85-76 victory. The Marauders were sizzling hot from behind the arc all night shooting an even 50% (11-22) from deep. UM were also 22 of 26 from the free throw line and outrebounded Upper Iowa 40-35.
 
There were four Peacocks in double-figures with Pagel leading the way. The Sumner native scored a career-high 22 points to go with 6 rebounds and 2 steals. Whitney Kieffer tallied 12 points and 7 rebounds. Laura TerHark accumulated double-digit points for the first time this season with 12 as well. The fourth scorer in double-figures was Thrapp with 10 points along with 6 assists. Chelsea Garcia totaled 8 points as well as 8 rebounds and 3 takeaways.
 
UIU will return home for a three-game home stand beginning with Winona State Tuesday. The contest is set to tipoff at 6 p.m. in Dorman Gymnasium. The Warriors and Peacocks have already met twice this season with the purple and white taking both meetings.
